Milwaukee, Brookfield, Wisconsin, United States, 53045
Project LeaderJob Description:Provides leadership over moderate to highly complex design projects. Battery charger projects consisting of product design improvements, product value engineering cost reductions, and manufacturing location changes. Gives direction, guidance, and engineering expertise to local and global team members. Reviews work of designers, engineers, and other project team members. Sets goals for the team.Develops, schedules, agendas, facilitates, and documents project meetings for battery chargers. Tracks project schedules to ensure adherence to timelines. Regularly makes presentations of project status.Responsible for the completion of assigned engineering projects within budgetary and scheduling guidelines.Able to coordinate project planning efforts for low to moderate complexity battery charger projects consisting of product design improvements, product cost reductions, and manufacturing location changes. Identifies critical path tasks and project risks such as planning product level testing, managing design tradeoffs with marketing and engineering teams, and ensuring engineering milestones are completed with moderate supervision.Applies a good understanding of the NPD (new product development) process from conception through product launch. Anticipates engineering deliverables in all phases. Clearly understands the philosophies behind the various NPD phases and is able to objectively determine the maturity level of a design, development process, and use of the CTQ matrix. The NPD process consists of a series of engineering phase gates of design, testing, and technical reviews to support the successful launch of a product.Frames technical tradeoff discussions with marketing and other cross-functional team members. Exercises effective scheduling development work to meet overall project milestones.Ensures effective communication with cross-functional international teams as well as management teams. This includes daily team communications as well as high-level project summaries. Teams will typically consist of mechanical/electrical/firmware/reliability engineers, designers, marketing, and agency/safety. Teams may consist of global members from the USA, Mexico, PRC, and Vietnam.Identifies possible design/manufacturing hurdles that must be overcome to manufacture battery chargers. Effectively scrutinizes designs for potential weaknesses and suggests improvements.Works with Operations, Quality, and Suppliers to confirm delivery of conforming products.Motivates cross-functional teams to work toward and accomplish engineering project objectives. Maintains focus of project team on cost, performance, and schedule. May have formal supervisory responsibilities, although will provide input for performance appraisals for engineering and cross-functional project team members.Minimum Requirements:Master’s or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering field, and 5 years of relevant engineering experience; OR a Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering field, and 7 years of relevant engineering experience.Experience must include:Designing a product that was mass produced.Managing low to moderately complex new product development projects, including leading projects to schedules and budget.Engineering specifications and delivering conforming parts and assemblies.Critical path schedule management.Creating and presenting executive engineering and project summaries.Leading teams through complex problem solving.Technical and schedule risk management and implementing preventive actions.Drafting comprehensive test plans and specifications.3D CAD and tolerance analysis.Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).Cp (Process Capability), Cpk (Process Capability Index), GR&R (Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility).Ability to travel up to 15% domestically and internationally.
