Position DescriptionThe Redfish/BMC/IPMI Developer will be involved in the end-to-end development and maintenance of systems management solutions. They will actively contribute to the development, integration, and enhancement of Redfish API standards, BMC firmware functionalities, and IPMI commands and procedures. The ideal candidate must have broad and deep technical expertise, forward-thinking innovation, and will collaborate effectively to drive project life cycles and ensure product excellence.Position ResponsibilitiesAs a Staff Engineer, you will:Design and develop sophisticated server management solutions using Redfish API standardsEnhance and maintain BMC firmware, ensuring optimal hardware-software integrationImplement, optimize, and troubleshoot IPMI-related proceduresCollaborate with various teams to customize Redfish standards for specific product needsWork closely with hardware teams in developing and enhancing BMC firmware functionalityLead the diagnostic processes, troubleshooting, and issue resolution related to systems managementUphold stringent security protocols across all systems management solutionsDevelop comprehensive automated testing procedures to validate functionalityProduce detailed technical documentation and provide training for relevant stakeholdersParticipate in comprehensive system design reviews and API specifications evaluationsImplement and improve IPMI commands and procedures to ensure seamless integration and communication between software and hardwareCollaborate with cross-functional teams to define new capabilities based on Redfish standards tailored to our productsTroubleshoot and resolve issues related to systems management, including diagnostics with BMC and remote management applicationsStay updated with the latest advancements in Redfish standards, BMC functionalities, and IPMI enhancementsAccountable for the quality, usability, and performance of the solutionsFocus on multiple areas and provide leadership to the engineering teamsOwn complete solution across its entire life cycleUtilize programming languages like Python, C# or other object-oriented languages, SQL, and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of Azure tools and servicesMentor more junior team members professionally to help them realize their full potentialConsistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teamsQualificationsHands-on experience with BMC firmware development, including knowledge of underlying hardware and software interactionsProficiency in IPMI tool suite, with demonstrated knowledge of command sets, KVM, SOL, and remote connectivity methodsProficient with BMC functionalities and out of band management interfaces/protocols such as PECI, Redfish, and IPMIDemonstrated ability in firmware development or system-level software developmentHands-on experience with implementing solutions around OpenBMC, AGESA, ODIMExperience with C/C++ development, bash/python/GO for scripting, and debugging skills in embedded Linux operating environmentsDeep knowledge of Server Systems including SBIOS, Network, power, rack layouts, cabling, and experience with Compute, Storage and GPU serversGood understanding of CPU architecture, DDR4, UPI, PCIe, NVMe, ACPI, RAS, Power Management, TPM/TXT, and EDKII, and Secure bootFamiliar with UEFI driver development and various UEFI protocols is a plusAdvanced knowledge of OS internals and how BIOS/UEFI interacts with OSFamiliarity with standard cryptographic practices and secure coding standardsIn-depth knowledge of data structures and algorithmsKnowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication)Strong problem-solving abilityAbility to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environmentRequired Experience4+ years of hands-on experience in systems/server management specifically focusing on Redfish, BMC, and IPMI standards4+ years of experience in a collaborative development environment, utilizing modern software development methodologies4+ years coding experience in one of the following languages: C/C++ development, Bash, Python or GO4+ years of experience in developing and maintaining large scale, high-availability systems3+ years of experience with automated testing, documentation, and troubleshooting in a hardware/software integration context3+ years of experience working with security protocols and products: Understanding of Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, OAuthActive contributor to industry standards like Open Compute (OCP), IPMI, DMTF Standards, and open source is highly desirableProven record in delivering BMC or equivalent manageability stack for enterprise serversDesired Experience8+ years of professional software development experience5+ years of experience with systems architecture and design5+ years of experience working with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service4+ years of experience in open-source frameworks1+ years of technical leadership experienceEducationBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experienceAnnual Salary$77,000.00 - $261,500.00The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate.
