Due to the security clearance requirements of this position, we can only consider US citizens.Overview:We are seeking an IT Systems Administrator who will focus on supporting enterprise level systems and applications, infrastructure monitoring, and future proofing solutions! This position resides in the Digital Hosting Services Team in the Enterprise Operations Group of the Digital Services Infrastructure & Operations Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).As a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science national laboratory, ORNL has an extraordinary 80-year history of solving the nation’s biggest problems. These elements are critical for enabling the execution of ORNL’s broader mission to accelerate scientific discoveries and their translation into energy, environment, and security solutions for the nation.Major Duties/Responsibilities:Document team processes including work instructions and maintain a living knowledge base.Monitor infrastructure equipment and servers for uptime as well as performance.Assist in patching and upgrading enterprise servers.Assist in system and application vulnerability remediation.Assist in IT administration of mass notification systems.Work with other system engineers and vendors to troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues.Provide suggestions for process improvement and implement when required.Install and configure software, both commercial packages and various open-source packages.Derive results for metrics on technical performance as requested.Engage with engineers to automate workflows.Locate and execute automation/self-healing solutions.Deliver ORNL’s mission by aligning behaviors, priorities, and interactions with our core values of Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, and Service. Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility by fostering a respectful workplace – in how we treat one another, work together, and measure success.Basic Qualifications:A BS in information technology, computer science, computer engineering, business or a related field of study and two (2) to four (4) years of aligned experience in the following areas is required for consideration:

Scripting (PowerShell, python, bash, etc.)Backup architecture and operationsSCCM and server patchingEnterprise file share administrationManaging a virtualized environment including tuning and maintenanceWindows and Linux Server PlatformsAdministration of Mass Notification systems

Basic understanding of network communication and demonstrated troubleshooting techniques.Basic understanding of virtualization environments and operations.Excellent interpersonal skills suitable for user support and ability to work well with peer system administrators.Preferred Qualifications:Enterprise automated VM Cluster installation/configuration/management experience.Experience with network administration including, but not limited to, subnetting, 802.1q VLAN tagging, cabling, etc.Previous experience working in a government, scientific, or other highly technical environment.Demonstrated ability to perform job tasks while considering cyber security risk of those tasks, and consulting with security professionals when necessary.Experience in an environment requiring change control processes.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.Special Requirements:Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position.
