The VCU Institute for Alcohol and Alcohol Studies conducts research across the translational science spectrum related to substance use disorders (SUD), from population-level epidemiologic studies to mechanistic neuroimaging studies. Addiction is a chronic, treatable medical condition with bio-psycho-social complexity, and the science that informs interventions targeting addiction warrants a multi-disciplinary, collaborative approach. Many IDAS studies are focused on informing the development and implementation of innovative, better treatment options for individuals seeking SUD recovery. To ensure that findings from IDAS research will successfully move down the translational science pipeline to achieve improved health and wellness outcomes for our patient population, while also prioritizing equity, it is imperative that the participants in our clinical trials reflect the communities we serve, and the input of the people impacted by SUD is incorporated throughout the scientific process. IDAS is seeking to add a new member to its team to construct and manage a program for its studies focused on engagement of our communities. This manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing the development and implementation of a community-engagement program for IDAS research and scientific endeavors. This will include leading and carrying out clinical trial recruitment in community settings. Additionally, this role will lead fostering and maintaining partnerships with SUD treatment stakeholders, developing and managing the coordination of a system for people with lived experience to be incorporated into IDAS studies from their design through finding dissemination and implementation.
