SUMMARYThe Youth Build Job Developer (YB JD) provides an array of self-sufficiency supportive services to Detroit Housing Commission (DHC) Youth Build residents and their families. YB JD maintains working relationships with employers, industry organizations, and public agencies to source job openings and secure employment and vocational training opportunities for resident participants. YB JD evaluates individuals’ background, skills, and interests and matches potential job openings or training programs. YB JD coaches and prepares residents for interviews and entry into the workforce. The Youth Build Job Developer works in conjunction with the Youth Build Program Manager and other management staff of the housing authority to empower residents to become economically independent and self-reliant. They may provide workforce development, employment readiness, job-specific training, job searching and placement, informal counseling; information and referral; plan educational programs; and linkage to community service providers to coordinate services as needed. The YB JD also educates residents on available services, develops contacts with service providers and agencies for resident referrals, and monitors the provision and quality of services.
