This position will report to the Manager, Environmental & Grant Accounting within the Corporate Controlling department. You will be assisting in the accounting, consolidation, and financial reporting of our environmental business unit and support the accounting for grants obtained by the Company. This is not the typical staff accountant role as you will be responsible for a variety of accounting and consolidation tasks. You will be exposed to all levels and departments and will actively shape this newly created role within our organization.

Heidelberg Materials is seeking a qualified Accountant to join our team in Irving, Texas.

Environmental Accounting

Participate in the month end close process for the environmental business unit including preparation and posting journal entries, preparing account reconciliations and reporting

Carry out monthly consolidation for a sub-group within the environmental business unit

Prepare account analysis and reconciliations for balance sheet accounts

Reconcile project database with external parties

Assist with annual audit requests

Communicate/work with other Corporate departments to research reconciling items.

Prepare and distribute reports and provide analysis/support as needed on a monthly basis.

Identify process improvement opportunities

Grant Accounting

You will support the accounting for grants of federally funded programs. Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with payroll, travel, and other cost categories.

You will oversee the accurate recording of grant-related transactions on the general ledger for Heidelberg Materials and its divisions, ensuring compliance with the Single Audit Act. You will be responsible for balance sheet reconciliations and month-end close process related to grants.

Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including assistance and support for financial audits.

Collaborate with external auditors for the successful completion of the annual audit in compliance with the Single Audit Act.

Conduct grant reconciliation to ensure funds are properly accounted for and utilized.

Maintain meticulous records and ensure adherence to record retention policies.

Monitor grant budgets and expenditures to ensure alignment with funding requirements.

Essential Experience and Skills

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance

Minimum of 4 years of experience

SAP experience

A proven history in meeting deadlines and working collaboratively as part of a team are essential.

Critical thinking and strong analytical skills

Prefer experience with grant contracts, grant management, and accounting, ensuring meticulous compliance with IFRS, GASB, Uniform Guidance Administrative Requirements, and the Single Audit Act when recording transactions.
