The outreach efforts focus on developing field contacts with individuals who are at-risk of, suspected of, or are involved in criminal behavior. This supervisor directs outreach work intended to reduce crime through the development of relationships with people, and appropriate referrals to community services based on their needs. In addition, this position is responsible for all administrative services and record keeping in support of the initiatives, and for monitoring progress of individuals referred to supportive services. General supervision is received from a higher level employee in the Mayors Office. Related work is performed as required.This is a Competitive Class position. The individual selected to fill this vacancy will be given a provisional appointment and will be required to participate in the next Civil Service Examination for this title.A qualified applicant may be provisionally appointed and serve in the position until a Civil Service Examination is administered and an appropriate eligible list can be established to make a permanent appointment in accordance with the Civil Service Rule of Three. (See " http://www.cityofrochester.gov/article.aspx?id=8589935786 " Provisional Appointment - FAQ's) If you are already a City employee and have permanent, competitive status in your current position and appointment to this title would result in a provisional appointment in another department, you will lose your previous permanent competitive rights.CITY RESIDENCY WILL BE REQUIRED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF HIRE.Typical Work Activities+ Develops, implements, and evaluates new violence prevention outreach programs;+ Oversees intervention efforts with individual who are at-risk or suspected of participating in criminal behavior in order to discourage criminal behavior, discuss positive alternatives and opportunities;+ Manages and monitors activities of Pathways to Peace field personnel;+ Manages, monitors, and maintains communication with community partners to ensure commitments are being met;+ Ensures proper protocal collaboration between other City departments in an effort to provide effective successful outreach services;+ Assesses staff development needs and coordinates training as needed;+ Supports and sustains current employees involved in outreach;+ Attends community meetings to share information regarding outreach services for youth;+ Seeks alternate funding and grant opportunities to help maintain outreach programs;+ Implements and enforces City and Bureau safety policy+ Ability to work flexible hours as needed.Minimum QualificationsI. A. Masters or Bachelors degree in Human Services, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field PLUS two (2) years of paid experience (or its part-time equivalent) working with at-risk youth or young adults which included street outreach, gang prevention, and crisis intervention;ORB. Associates degree in Human Services, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field, PLUS four (4) years of paid experience as stated in A;ORC. High school diploma or GED PLUS six (6) years of paid experience as stated in A.PLUSII. Two years of supervisory experience.**This experience may be included or in addition to the qualifying experience in I.
