Position Description:The SBHC Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing primary healthcare, as outlined by Jefferson Parish Schools andthe Office of Public Health.
Reports to:Coordinator of School Based Health Centers, the Executive Director of Health and Related Services, and theMedical Director of the School Based Health Center.
Scope of Responsibility:Elicits a comprehensive health history and performs a physical assessment, sports or comprehensive physicalaccording to the Office of Public Health standards. The NP uses skills of observation, inspection, palpation,percussion and auscultation as well as basic instruments and indicated screening procedures for the purpose ofreporting or referring to a medical doctor any abnormal findings.The nurse practitioner is directly accountable to the medical director in matters that pertain to medicalpractice. They are accountable and shall work cooperatively with the Coordinator of SBHCS and the ExecutiveDirector of Health and Related Services in all other matters that pertain to the efficient operation of the center.Assesses, plans, implements, documents, and evaluates primary healthcare to students according to SBHCprotocols, referring to the physician when indicated.Serves as a consultant to the registered nurse and medical assistants directly or by telephone in mattersconcerning center policy and clinical issues.Manage health/medical crises appropriately with referrals to outside sources as necessary.Develops and maintains accurate and comprehensive health records by using the electronic medical record onSBHC enrolled students.Administers medication as prescribed and follows protocols as described in collaborative practice with thedoctor.Attends staff meetings of school-based health centers and in-services.Willingness to accept precept medical students.Coordinating/promoting student and staff wellness and wellness activities.Follows SBHC confidentiality policy and the mandated federal guidelines.Maintains required professional certification. Holds a current license as Nurse Practitioner, in the State ofLouisiana, and Certification by Louisiana State Board of Nursing and Advanced Practitioner of Nursing BoardCertification.Maintain and upgrade nurse practitioner skills through continuing education as required by the Louisiana StateBoard of Nursing.Maintains a current collaborative practice with the medical director of the SBHC as directed by the LouisianaState Board of Nursing.Performs other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of School Based Health Centers, Executive Director ofHealth and Related Services, and Medical Director of the School Based Health Center.SBHC NP Rev. 7-2024 1Skills and Qualifications:

Successful candidates will alsodemonstrate:Master’s degree in Nursing - Family Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from an accredited university/collegeHolds a current Louisiana nurse practitioner license in family or pediatric medicine.3+ years of progressively increasing experience as a nurse practitioner.Current Registered Nurse licensure with the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.Holds and maintains current certification in CPR.Acquires a minimum of 10 contact hours of continuing education in subjects related to school nursing.Working knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations as well as school system regulationsregarding schools.Proficient in Microsoft Office and skilled in Google Suite.Knowledge of telehealth platforms.Strong written and oral communication skills in multiple settings.The ability to be an engaging change agent and culture-creator that can inspire and motivate.Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to use quantitative and qualitative data tomake decisions and recommendations.Collaborative management style, with a proven track record of working with diverse individuals at all levelsto drive decision-making and results.High degree of professionalism, with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities, while consistentlydemonstrating sound judgment and disciplined thinking.Ability to work collaboratively with team members.Desirable Qualifications:
