Role Summary
Magna New Mobility is seeking a Senior Manager, Vehicle Controls. The successful candidate will lead and manage a cross-functional engineering department that includes Embedded Hardware Engineers, Systems Engineers, Software Engineers, and Systems Test Engineers. This role is responsible for the end-to-end development, maintenance, and optimization of the Vehicle Electrical and Electronic (EE) System Architecture, with a focus on integrating cutting-edge technologies to support new mobility initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and oversee a multidisciplinary team, fostering collaboration between Embedded Hardware, Systems, Software, and Test Engineers.Develop, update, and maintain the Vehicle EE System Architecture, ensuring alignment with the latest industry standards and technological advancements.Utilize existing Magna embedded controllers and sensors to design and enhance EE architecture, while identifying the need for new embedded controllers and sensors as required.Conduct thorough assessments to make strategic decisions regarding the development or procurement (make vs. buy) of new embedded controllers and sensors.Collaborate closely with Functional Safety (ISO26262) and Cybersecurity experts to guide hardware, software, and testing strategies.Define and manage System-Level Feature Requirements for the New Mobility Autonomous Delivery Vehicle, ensuring these are consistently updated and maintained.Implement embedded software features based on systems requirements, ensuring seamless integration and functionality.Develop comprehensive test plans derived from system requirements and design robust test cases to ensure software verification and validation.Establish and maintain test infrastructure, including Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), and Vehicle-in-the-Loop (VIL) platforms, to verify software against system and performance requirements.Drive operational excellence using ASPICE process frameworks to ensure consistency, structure, and quality across all stages of product development.Apply Agile methodologies to ensure iterative and incremental software and feature development, enhancing product adaptability and responsiveness.Implement and manage departmental key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor and improve product quality, team performance, and project outcomes.Provide support for vehicle integration activities and resolution of technical issues, including field-related challenges.Key Qualifications/Requirements
Ground up controls architecture design and development high desirable.BS/MS in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering/Computer ScienceMinimum of 7 years in Automotive OEM or Tier 1 environmentExperience in function development - base knowledge of automotive software development practices.EE system, vehicle and/or system wiring including best practices.Deep experience of Model Based Design (MBD); Matlab, Simulink, Stateflow, dSpace TargetLink and RT environments with associated tool chains.Experience of developing systems with functional safety processes/considerations. Building, compiling, and flashing software to controllers. Experience of CAN, CANFD, Ethernet, LIN and other communication protocols.Experience of vehicle network simulation and analysis.Experience of Vector tools including CANalyzer, CANape, CANdb++. Software programming in C/C++.Experience of systems engineering principles to define and develop functional vehicle controls systems in the areas of powertrain, electrification / energy storage systems, body, chassis, HMI, connectivity, advance driver assistance systems, autonomy etc.)Knowledge of with ADAS/AD features, including sensors (cameras, LIDAR, RADAR), sensor fusion, path planningKnowledge of vehicle connectivity/telematics including communication protocols.Knowledge of vehicle high voltage (HV) systems including safety and awareness.
