As the Senior Cost Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in driving the financial performance of our manufacturing operations. You will be responsible for analyzing and optimizing cost structures, contributing to the strategic direction of production and operational efficiency. This position involves working closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and sales, to provide insightful data and analysis that directly influences decision-making and profitability.
This position requires a self-starter who is highly motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision. The individual should be adept at prioritizing tasks, managing multiple projects simultaneously, and meeting tight deadlines, all while maintaining a focus on accuracy and efficiency.

Key responsibilities around cost accounting:
Cost Analysis Leadership:Serve as a critical leader in cost and justification analysis for significant projects, facilitating effective decision-making on make vs. buy scenarios and capacity planning. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive cost-effective strategies.
Overhead and Labor Rate Modeling:
Create and maintain comprehensive overhead and labor rate models to establish and monitor standard cost rates for actual, future, and forecasted budgets. Ensure models are updated regularly to reflect changes in operational efficiency and market conditions.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration:
Partner with the Engineering department to ensure the accuracy of the Bill of Materials (BOM) and Routing data. Review and validate cost components to ensure they align with manufacturing processes and pricing strategies. Work closely with production, procurement, and supply chain teams to gather necessary data for accurate costing. Participate in cross-functional projects aimed at cost reduction and process improvements.
Variance Analysis:
Prepare monthly variance reports, highlighting discrepancies between standard and actual costs. Investigate and explain variances, providing actionable insights to management.
Capacity Analysis:
Conduct capacity analysis to identify production bottlenecks and improve efficiency. Collaborate with operations to optimize resource utilization and production scheduling.
Financial Reporting:Prepare detailed cost reports and analyses to support strategic planning and financial forecasting-present findings to senior management to aid in decision-making and resource allocation.
Continuous Improvement:Identify opportunities for process improvements in cost accounting practices and contribute to developing best practices within the finance team.
Audit Support:As required, assist in internal and external audits by providing accurate and timely cost information and documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS
Proven experience in project cost analysis, including make vs. buy decisions and capacity analysis.
Strong analytical skills with proficiency in financial modeling and reporting tools.
Excellent communication and leadership skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
Advanced proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel or Access.
Strong understanding of standard costing, variance analysis, activity based costing, and financial modeling.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification is preferred.
10+ years of experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing environment.
Strong proficiency in cost accounting systems and ERP software (experience with Great Plains preferred).
Advanced Excel skills, with the ability to analyze large datasets and create complex financial models.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Proven ability to work cross-functionally and influence decisions based on financial data.
Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining financial concepts to
non-financial team members.
Computer Skill
Advanced user with Microsoft Office environment, including Outlook, Word, and Excel. Financial software experience is an asset; Great Plains is preferred-the ability to learn new software and database programs as necessary.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Maintain a valid driver's license. Maintain eligibility to work with firearms under state and federal guidelines.
