Why does the job exist?
The Accountant & Auditor O is responsible for the accurate, completeness and timeliness of accounts payable transactions to include but not limited to: Prepare/audit invoices, create voucher payments, track invoice status, reconcile voucher payments, and reconcile purchase order encumbrance. The Accountant & Auditor O may be tasked with additional responsibilities to support the finance team.
How does it get done?
The key responsibilities are:Prepare invoices for end user certification. Ensure certified invoices are completed timely by end user, identify if changes are needed and complete actions such as change orders, and follow up with vendor as applicable.
Create voucher payments and follow up on payment status. Communicate as appropriate with vendors including responding to vendor inquiries regarding payment status.
Monitor purchase order encumbrance balances to ensure all invoices are received.
Run reports monthly to track voucher status, and payment status.
Serve as the backup and other duties as assigned to include but not limited to: collecting/processing revenue payments from customers, assist with monthly revenue recognition, journal entries, create purchase orders, assist with covering duties as assigned in warehouse and purchasing

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate would be a detail orientated individual with the experience and ability to independently conduct audits, reconciliations, and corrections in an organization that has multiple funding/revenue sources with a solid understanding of the General Accepted Accounting Principles. Candidate would have the ability to multi-task, prioritize workload, and work under pressure in a high-volume position with accuracy ensuring all deadlines are met. Candidate would have experience working with the State of New Mexico SHARE.
Minimum Qualification
Associates Degree in Accounting, Finance, Auditing or Business Administration and two (2) years directly related work experience in accounting, auditing, finance and/or budgeting. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate. In state and out of state travel may be required. Successful completion of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is required.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting supporting a fully functional laboratory. There is extensive personal computer and phone usage, and repetitive trunk/arm/hand and neck movements. The fully functional laboratory contains biological, chemical, physical, and radiological hazards. Incumbent will be required to use all applicable safety equipment provided by the employer and follow all safety precautions specified by the employer. Ability to lift/push up to 50 lbs.
