Senior Emergency Coordinator

The Senior Emergency Services Coordinator (SESC), under the direct supervision of the National Mass Care Unit Program Manager I, supports and coordinates the activities of the National Mass Care Unit within the Field Operations Bureau, in the Disaster Services Branch (DSB). The SESC leads significant, specialized projects and programs to assist in national-level relationships. The role supports the unit by working on cross-border agreements, formulates program and policy suggestions and proposals, reviews technical work products of national-level and federal partners, analyzes legislation having a statewide program impact, recommends legislative proposals and implementations, provides input on strategic planning, serves as the back-up DSB Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) coordinator; and works as a support to the Field Operations Bureau during emergency response operations. The SESC also serves as a coordinator for state and national associations.

Working Conditions
This work location is very convenient! The CDSS is located two blocks from the light rail and public transportation: within walking distance to the State Capitol, parks, restaurants, farmer's markets and the Golden 1 Arena. Our building has easy access to I-5, Highway 50, and Highway 80.
This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under California Government Code Section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time. Specific telework arrangements may be discussed in more detail with the respective hiring manager. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the Department of Social Services policies.

The SESC is subject to 24-hour on call in the event of an emergency and must be able to respond to a disaster assignment on short notice. The SESC is required to travel and participate in disaster related work; monitor a cell phone and respond to email and phone calls 24 hours, seven days a week, including holidays; work irregular hours and overtime; work at locations other than the official duty station; and perform other related duties that are not specified in the duty statement. The SESC must have the ability to perform in extremely challenging situations with tact and professionalism; be organized; and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
