Department Profile:
Mississippi State University Police Department is charged with providing for the safety of all the students, faculty, staff, and guests who attend class, work, live, and visit our campus, and with the security of university buildings and property. Mississippi State University police officers are always working and available to assist you. The department provides a comprehensive array of law enforcement services through a dedicated staff of more than 35 sworn, state commissioned police officers and 10 full-time support personnel. All MSU Police officers are certified by the Mississippi Peace Officers Minimum Standards Commission and have the same authorities and must meet the same expectations as law enforcement officers in any community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Monitors police base station radio networks. Receives and disseminates information verbally is a clear and concise speaking voice to University Police Officers and personnel of the University Police Department. Enters information into computer via keyboard to respond to officer's request for information Monitors and responds to activation of campus-wide electronic sensor alarms. Oversees the emergency 911 service for the university taking appropriate action concerning police, fire, or medical assistance. Maintains daily telephone contact with all segments of the general public and campus community. Must be available to work rotating shifts. Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Must be able to pass a written assessment. Completion of a certified Telecommunications Operator course within one year of employment. Must be available to work rotating shifts. Ability to speak in a clear and concise voice. -or- Any equivalent combination of related experience and/or education approved by the Department of Human Resources Management.Will ABD's (all but dissertation) be considered?
Preferred Qualifications:
Vocational or college courses in mass communications. Previous experience as a telecommunications operator in a law enforcement or emergency 911 service. Completion of a certified Telecommunications Operator course.

None
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Must be available to work rotating shifts (including nights & weekends).No unusual physical requirements. Requires limited lifting of files and records and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility. Job frequently requires sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
