ON CALL AS NEEDED. Hours and days will vary with each assignment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIESCare for routine student illnesses and injuries in the health office.Triage and initial care of students with potentially life threatening illnesses and injuries.Identify students with health problems and refer to/consult with school nurse.Document all student visits to the health office according to District and health services policies and procedures.Assist students with hygiene/activities of daily living.Active communication with students, school nurse, staff, and parent/ guardian.Administer medications to students according to District and health services policies and procedures.Willingness to learn and perform special procedures (ie. gastric-tube management, inhalation therapy, emergency protocols, diabetes procedures, etc.).Perform clerical functions related to the health services program.Attend in-service programs.Assist with health related building emergencies as trained.Report to work as scheduled on a reliable basis.Other duties as may be assigned.
CLASSIFICATIONSubstitute$14.00 per hour.
PREPARATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLSCurrent certification in First-Aid, and CPR/AED, or complete training if not certified.Certification in Medication Administration after employee begins.Blood Borne Pathogens training (provided by district after employment begins.)Computer literacy required.Interest in working with young people.Handle confidential information in an ethical manner.Efficient clerical skills in typing, recording, filing and telephone skills.Ability to use good decision-making skills regarding communication with students, school nurse, other health service personnel, administration, teaching faculty, and parents.Some medical background or work experience in a health clinic may bebeneficial.Able to work in cooperation with administrative, health service personnel, secretarial, and teaching staff.

The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds 0 to 12 feet and occasionally up to 20 feet, such as curriculum materials, desks, chairs, and boxes. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables and carts. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus while supervising students and working with computers, written materials, reports, assessment data, etc.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.The noise level in the work environment is moderately quiet. The position requires the commitment of professional working hours that may require the employee to extend beyond a typical 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. workday. The employee will frequently work in different areas of the building including in/at desks, on or near the floor, standing, in movement while supervising students during indoor and outdoor activities, etc. The employee will usually work in indoor temperatures but will work outdoors when supervising playground and transportation activities and while on field trips.
