The Division of Global Health Equity (DGHE), Department of Medicine, Brigham and Women's Hospital, fosters the support and coordination of training, research, and service to reduce disparities in disease burden and to improve treatment outcomes both at home and abroad. The Division focuses on diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of health problems, most directly of those that disproportionately affect populations in the developing world and of major importance to society.
The Program Manager for the Division of Global Health Equity (DGHE) oversees the programmatic, administrative, and financial aspects of the division, including grants management, budget development, and monitoring, programs and operations management, reporting, and compliance. This position acts as a central member of the leadership team, reporting directly to the Administrative Director, Lewis Seton, and working closely with the Division Chief to provide input on long-term planning and drive administrative and operational systems.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Direction Duties and Responsibilities (50%):
• Develop and oversee an infrastructure for division research in collaboration with Administrative Director, including:
o In collaboration with the DGHE Faculty Director of Research, building a faculty development program that involves organizing research working groups, grant writing workshops, and opportunities that allow for collaborations both within + outside the division.
o Creating an onboarding program for new faculty and staff that allows for a smooth transition into the MGB system.
o Developing and implement processes and procedures for internal communication
o Leading the divisional transition from Peoplesoft to Workday, as well as helping to manage any potential MGB-wide change
o Implementing the Division's internal administrative and operational procedures to ensure efficiencies and optimal use of resources, regularly assess the success of systems, and develop appropriate documentation (SOPs) and manuals for distribution to all faculty and staff
o Strategic planning with the Division Chief and Administrative Director to create initiatives that further the division's goals; identify and make recommendations for staffing needs and structural changes; and strategic planning around equity and inclusion
• Oversee program management of DGHE educational programs, including but not limited to the Global Health Delivery Intensive Program (GHDI) and Howard Hiatt Residency Program:
o Lead student outreach effort
o Lead evaluation and debriefing processe
o Oversee student enrollment and administrative processe
o Plan student orientation, social events, and graduation
o Set and monitor short-term and long-term programmatic goal
o Manage marketing and communication
o Facilitate team and programmatic meetings as needed
• Support research efforts on individual grants by acting as program director within the Division of Global Health Equity:
o Manage communications with project partner
o Provide primary support for planning, monitoring, and evaluation of project implementation
o Oversee day-to-day project operation
o Supervise project staff
Financial and Post-Award Duties and Responsibilities (40%):
Responsible for the overall financial management of the Division of Global Health Equity• Closely monitor the budgets, including monthly analysis of expenses, to ensure spending is on track, regularly updating the Chief and PIs regarding concerns and recommendations for budgetary changes in relation to project and division need
Oversee and manage all divisional funds (research and non-research) to ensure timely fund set-up and accuracy of expenses, billing, and revenueManage all active subcontracts and partner collaborations within DGHE. Serve as a liaison between BWH and subcontractors and/or partners, managing communications, budgets, contract set-up, modifications, and terminations
• Prepare and work with PIs as well as RM to submit all financial reports, prior approvals, requests for no-cost extensions, progress reports, and budget changes--including but not limited to carryforward requests to sponsors in accordance with sponsor deadlines and policie
• Manage effort certification process and work with faculty to prepare accurate OSP'
• Ensure compliance with funder and contract terms as well as organizational policie
Administrative and Operational Duties and Responsibilities (10%):
• Provide overall administrative and operational support for the division's staff and faculty, serve as a resource for day-to-day requests and concerns; ensure awareness of resources offered by MGB
• Supervise division's pre-award grants manager and/or research assistant
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelors required. Master's degree with a minimum of 7 years of experience in finance and program management preferred.
• Experience with program and operations management and external communications with stakeholders is strongly preferred.
• Strong and effective oral and written communication skill
• Experience working with multiple stakeholders in a multicultural environment
• Strong interpersonal skill
• Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work well under pressure with competing prioritie
• Strong skills and experience in computing systems for documentation and remote work, including managing and using communication platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams; managing digital calendars; expertise in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Work effectively in a team environment and establish strong working relationship
• Follow procedures and guidelines but with the capacity to take initiative where appropriate
• Strong organizational skills and an ability to meet deadline
• A friendly and approachable personality with a willingness to learn
• Interest in social justice and public health is strongly desirable
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively;
• Ability to interact with people from various cultural and language backgrounds.

• Highly professional and in possession of excellent social skills for regular interaction with workgroup members, international government officials, and high-level industry executives;
