Construction Project Manager/Senior Project Manager

We are actively recruiting for both Project Managers and Senior Project Managers to oversee substantial healthcare, research, and infostructure initiatives situated in the UVA Health Precinct and Fontaine Park. CC&R plays a pivotal role in achieving Facilities Management objectives, providing managerial support for design, engineering, construction services, and procurement across the University Community. Collaborating closely with the Office of the Architects for the University and the Office of the University Building Officials, this role offers professional development opportunities and clear career pathways within Facilities Management.
Facilities Management supports the University of Virginia's wide range of academic, research, and patient care programs. With over 1,100 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for managing the University's Major Capital Construction and Renovations Program, the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University owned and leased properties.
Position Summary:
Project Managers are responsible for overseeing the design and construction phases of University projects. Managing a portfolio of either a limited number of more complex projects or several smaller projects, they coordinate efforts among architects, engineers, contractors, and various University Departments and State Agencies. Project Managers ensure the successful completion of non-capital and smaller capital projects by developing, monitoring, managing, and communicating project scope, budget, and schedule requirements. Operating autonomously management tasks and routine correspondence, they also report to and receive guidance from Team Leaders.
Senior Project Managers take on the management of significant or logistically challenging projects, overseeing a portfolio that includes a single major project or a group project with superior importance, size, and/or complex functionality. Coordinating with various University Departments and State Agencies, they ensure compliance and technical approval at different stages of design and construction. Senior Project Managers play a crucial role in completing major capital projects by developing, monitoring, managing, and communicating a complex project requirement, providing advanced construction administration management services from contract award through close out of new renovated University facilities. Operating autonomously on management tasks and routine correspondence, they also report to and receives guidance from Team Leader.
Responsibilities for the Project Manager include: Receive project assignments and collaboratively define goals and objective with the project team and the customers.
Ensuring compliance with negotiated contract documents by professional consultants and contractors.
Review preliminary and final plans, providing recommendations for enhancing engineering details and constructability.
Overseeing the occupancy, turn over and close-out processes.
Determine construction progress and resolve construction problems with the construction administration manager, consultants, and contractors.
Work collaboratively in a diverse team environment with registered engineers, architects, and construction administration managers to facilitate successful design and construction.
Providing excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, demonstrating professionalism, accuracy, and follow through in work assignments.
In addition to the above, responsibilities for the Senior Project Manager also include:
Executing development of the construction phase and provide comprehensive construction administration management services on major capital projects.
Assigning project personnel to specific phases of construction or aspects of construction administration management.
Required Qualifications for the Project Manager:
Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or related field. Equivalent experience in lieu of a degree is acceptable.
Four (4) years' experience in project or construction management. Without Bachelor's degree, must have eight (8) years of relevant experience.
Required Qualifications for the Senior Project Manager:
Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, construction management or related field.
Seven (7) years' of progressively more responsible experience in project or construction management of large complex institutional, healthcare, or commercial buildings.
Professional licensure as an architect or engineering professional preferred for both roles.
Selected candidates will be required to pass a background check and health screen.
Anticipated Salary:
Project Manager is $85,000; actual starting salary will be commensurate with experience.
Senior Project Manager is $115,000; actual starting salary will be commensurate with experience.
