About the Opportunity: Reporting to the Controller, the Operational Accounting Manager is responsible for the management of the Academy's Accounts Payable, Procurement, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Corporate Credit Card administration functions, ensuring that all transactions are compliant with U.S. GAAP and internal policies. The Operational Accounting Manager will work with internal and external partners to understand business issues and requirements to assess and design effective short and long term process improvements and solutions.

This position is based in San Francisco, California. Staff are currently expected to work from the Academy offices at least 2-3 times per week, which may fluctuate based on business needs. Key ResponsibilitiesManage the operational aspects of accounts payable, procurement, accounts receivable, payroll, corporate credit card administration, and cash handling, with the ability to complete a first level review of all major deliverables as neededDevelop accounting procedures for new processes and prepare procedures/guidelines for other departments to ensure compliance with company policies and US GAAP; communicate updated processes to appropriate users and business partnersIdentify and implement process improvements and strive to follow best practices to enhance the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of individual and team work productsOversee internal controls within the assigned areas of responsibility; identify gaps in controls and remediate control deficiencies within a timely mannerOversee the payroll function, including supervising the work involved in complex calculations and the preparation and transmission of bi-weekly payroll for 600+ employees, including union, temporary, fixed term and on-call staffMaintain and optimize the payroll platform to meet the Academy's specific needs, reviewing and implementing system updates and best practicesMaintain compliance with all existing and changes to tax laws and labor regulationsDevelop reporting to measure success through KPI's and provide the leadership team with regular visibility through weekly, monthly, or quarterly reportsReview journal entries, account reconciliations, and ad hoc analyses/projects prepared by members of the team, ensuring that all documentation is audit readyAssign and review period-end financial results and variance analysis as compared to budget, prior year, year-end, and prior quarterReview schedules and reports in support of the annual and interim financial statement audit, other audits as needed, and annual tax Form 990; all schedules prepared must be adequately documentedDevelop budget and periodic forecasts for assigned line items on the Accounting Department expense budgetProvide oversight and review over all key year-end deliverables within the assigned areas of responsibility, including Form 1099 reporting and W-2 issuanceWork on special projects as neededPerform other job-related duties as assignedDirectly supervise accounting staff on the operational accounting teamAssign and review work prepared by the junior member(s) of the teamProvide timely and appropriate feedback to encourage the professional development of direct reports/junior members of the teamQualifications:

A successful candidate will have the following: Experience and/or Education:

A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license (Preferred)Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance-related fieldMinimum 8+ years in a public accounting firm and/or public company/corporate accounting environmentMinimum 4+ years in a supervisory roleStrong understanding of U.S. GAAPPractical experience with general ledger and payroll systemsSkills and Abilities:

Proven ability to effectively lead a teamExcellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders at a wide range of levelsGoogle Workspace and Microsoft Excel skills (maintaining complex spreadsheets and employing advanced formulas)Detail-oriented, strong organization and problem-solving skills with the ability to track multiple tasks and issues at once while meeting deadlinesDemonstrated ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively to drive operational effectivenessA process-improvement mindset with the ability to challenge the status quo and identify process improvementsPhysical Environment: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily.

Compensation and Benefits:The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $135,000. Actual compensation will be commensurate with experience, skills/knowledge set, and internal equity. We believe in fair and equitable compensation practices and are committed to providing competitive salaries within the industry and market standards. The Academy offers a total compensation package that emphasizes both base salary and comprehensive benefits based on the hours per week worked. Schedule : Full-Time, 40 hours per week. Although this position is exempt from overtime pay, there are periods when additional hours and/or weekend work will be expected to fulfill business needs.
