Position Summary
Perform routine tasks associated with pulling inventory from warehouse locations, packing into shipping cartons, and preparing for shipment to the customer. Timely and accurately prepare shipments (LTL, container, etc.) that require palletizing and shipping documents, and release shipments to carrier drivers following policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
Accurately pick items from warehouse locations onto picking cart or pallet utilizing an electronic handheld unit following directions on unit or sales orders.Ensure inventory for each order is physically separate from other orders and visually associated with the respective orders.Pack orders using the “scan and pack process” on a computer or handheld unit; select appropriate sized cartons; load correct product into carton protecting items and following customer requirements; affix address labels and appropriate documentation to carton; seal carton.Process packages for shipment: weigh cartons; associate RFID tags with the container; complete UPS, Fed Ex, US Post, and other designated carrier shipping forms. Stage cartons in designated areas while awaiting pick up.Prepare and/or partner with customer service to prepare documentation for shipments (domestic and international) including, but not limited to, Bills of Lading, Commercial Invoices, and Shipper Letters of Instructions. Verify information on documentation is up to date and correct.Arrange and/or schedule pick up of shipments with freight carriers, including obtaining quotes to compare rates.Safely build stable, secure pallets of cartons for freight shipments. Use stretch-wrap, braces, shrouds, and banding as necessary or required to meet customer needs and department standards.Assist freight carrier drivers to identify and verify information, sign for possession, and assist in loading (if requested) shipments.Effectively communicate issues with packaged item quality, sales order information, inventory discrepancies, shipping program, safety concerns, etc. to responsible parties which could include customer service or logistics leads. Communication tools may include email, photocopier, or other device in addition to verbal.Accurately and effectively troubleshoot routine shipping program errors independently.Act as assigned trainer for Shippers new in role or when learning new skills. Effectively and respectfully give feedback and foster the development of anyone in shipping.Consistently meet or exceed productivity and accuracy expectations.Maintain shipping documents and email communication organization according to department policies.Additional Functions
Correct any conditions which are not conducive to a safe, clean workplace. Report any safety problems immediately.Maintain clean and orderly work area including cleaning workstations, machines, and surrounding area using 5S principles.Must be able to operate material handling equipment including pallet jacks, hand trucks, WAV/personal lifts, forklifts, and other similar equipment.Perform packaging, material handling, and laser engraving tasks as needed to help the department meet company goals.Experience and Education
High School diploma or GED required.3-4 years of warehouse and/or shipping experience in an LTG-like manufacturing environment preferred or a minimum of 1 year as a Leatherman Shipper or Material Handler.Basic Math/Arithmetic Skills required. A calculator is provided to assist in calculations.Basic computer skills preferred. Willingness to learn and become proficient required.Ability to read, comprehend, speak, and write English at a level to effectively utilize and interpret SDS’s and work instructions or the ability to understand this information when translated.Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software skills (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required and Microsoft Dynamics AX experience preferred.Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continually required to stand; walk; balance; crouch, stoop, twist, kneel, use hands to finger, handle, grasp, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, some overhead; push/pull an average of 50 lbs. (maximum 125 lbs.). The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 50 lbs; climb; twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Employee will occasionally operate forklift and various lifts/hoists.
Working Conditions/Physical Hazards
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office environment, and occasionally exposed to production environment. Work area is well lit and air conditioned. All employees are expected to adhere to Company safety policies and wear personal protective equipment when exposed to work areas or performing tasks where it is required.
