Overview:
We are seeking a Research Scientist to focus on the development, implementation, and analysis of quantum algorithms for scientific data. This position is part of the Discrete Algorithms group in the Mathematics in Computation Section within the Computer Science and Mathematics Division of the Computing and Computational Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
We are particularly interested in candidates conducting research at the intersection of quantum algorithms, combinatorics, and symbolic computing. Key application areas include the verification and validation of quantum systems, quantum error correction, and performance modeling of quantum computers-critical to ensuring the reliability and scalability of future quantum and AI technologies.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Developing and analyzing quantum algorithms in different quantum computational models.
Building mathematical models and solvers using quantum algorithms for scientific data.
Verifying and validating quantum algorithms using formal and numerical methods.
Participation in developing and analyzing new computational methodologies for scientific problems, often customized to complex and large-scale scientific applications.
Delivery and support of mathematical technologies using combinatorics and symbolic computations for various scientific disciplines and applications.
Active participation in professional organizations.
Basic Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Mathematics, Computer Science, Computational Science, Engineering, Physics, or a field relevant to the job duties of this position.

Effective interpersonal skills.
Expert knowledge of open-source quantum software frameworks and languages.
