JOB SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Associate Principal of Operations, and the Assistant Superintendent of Operations or designee, the primary focus of the Night Lead Custodian is to efficiently and effectively manage the needs of the night custodial team with a clear structure for communication, accountability, and high standards of cleanliness. The Night Lead Custodian will also ensure that events are managed and supported with adequate custodial coverage, both for setup and post event cleanup.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:1. High School diploma/equivalent; minimum of 18 years of age2. Possess a current Illinois or Wisconsin Motor Vehicle Class D Operator License3. 2 years of custodial or related experience4. Bilingual preferred but not required5. Successful experience in custodial/janitorial work in a school or industrial environment.6. Proficient in basic computer skills and applications.7. Good attendance record.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:The following identifies the primary and essential functions of the assignment and is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties.1.Perform all phases of cleaning duties in the area assigned as well as perform routine maintenance and repair of the building and its furniture/equipment in accordance with District policies, administrative guidelines, local ordinances, Department of Health regulations and the provisions of State and Federal law.2. Follow the work schedule assigned, including day-to-day job assignments, work areas, special work projects, and summer/break cleaning and maintenance.3. Complete required tasks including, but not limited to sweeping, mopping, waxing floors; emptying and cleaning trash/waste receptacles and pencil sharpeners; refilling towel, toilet tissue, and soap dispensers; removing cobwebs, cleaning windows, cleaning all dry erase boards, dusting, and polishing furniture and woodwork, cabinetry, windowsills, and railings, cleaning and disinfecting toilets, urinals, sinks/wash basins, and drinking fountains as scheduled.4. Provide necessary custodial services to support the comprehensive instructional program, the program of food service, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, interscholastic athletics, and community use of school facilities.5. Monitor heating and ventilating equipment to assure it is operating safely and efficiently.6. Open and secure the building, classrooms, and other facilities as needed.7. Inspect buildings daily for damage and report conditions to the supervisor.8. Ensures Custodians secure all doors and windows within their assigned area at the end of the night.9. Replace light bulbs in assigned areas as needed; perform minor repairs to furniture and equipment.10. Provide outside maintenance to building and grounds, including removal of debris and clear sidewalks and entryways of snow and ice.11. Meet with the Day Lead Custodian daily to review tasks and priorities for the evening.12. The Night Lead conducts a huddle meeting with the night custodial staff at the beginning of the shift to pass on instructions and distribute responsibilities. Night custodian tasks are based on priorities outlined by the Day Lead Custodian.13. Provide clear direction to the Night Custodians, assigning tasks, and ensuring that areas of the building are adequately covered.14. Manage task allocation to make sure high traffic areas and any additional needs are addressed promptly.15. Collects Nightly Cleaning Checklist from each custodian to ensure that all tasks have been completed. The checklists are reviewed to confirm that all areas were properly cleaned, and any issues are noted on follow up.16. Complete End of Night report summarizing tasks completed, any issues encountered, and suggestions for the next day.17. Conduct regular cleaning audits utilizing the Facility Walkthrough form to maintain high cleaning standards and ensure the custodial team is performing effectively. Provide feedback to the night custodial team to ensure continuous improvement.18. Participate in monthly meetings (Day Lead, Associate Principal, Night Supervisor, Night Lead) to review custodial performance, discuss any issues, and adjust operational strategies and needs.19. Responsible for supporting event setups and coverage for large events (football games, fine arts performances).20. Develops rotating schedule to ensure adequate custodial staffing, allowing for both pre-event setup and post-event take down and cleaning.21. Responsible for managing all night custodial staff and will assign any sub coverage or night custodian to areas without coverage. Rotating schedule will be developed to ensure adequate coverage in the event there are a large number of absences and lack of coverage. Night Lead Custodian remains responsible for filling areas that have no coverage for the evening.22. Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:The following identifies the knowledge, skills, and abilities that are essential for the Night Lead Custodian position. This is not intended to be an exhaustive listing.1. Abilities to use technology to perform essential job functions.2. Able to access all areas of District facilities, including operations, utility, and maintenance, appropriate classroom, lunchroom/cafeteria, library/media, performance, gymnasium, and office areas.3. Able to follow safety rules and regulations.4. Able to routinely lift and move heavy objects weighing at least 50 pounds and occasionally lift/carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 75 pounds.5. Able to climb ladders and scaffolds to perform work tasks.6. Able to remove/shovel snow, collect debris, and maintain grounds in a presentable manner.7. Knowledge of custodial work and essential equipment.8. Oral and written communication skills.9. Ability to make general building repairs.10. Ability to follow directions and make decisions related to cleaning practices and department procedures.11. Ability to operate, care for and perform minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work.12. Ability to organize the daily schedule, organize cleaning and follow up functions of the position.13. Follow and enforce the district and building cleaning expectations.14. Ability to work cooperatively with diverse staff and students is a team environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Individuals appointed to these assignments must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility, and visual and auditory acuity and must maintain such physical fitness as to perform the duties of this assignment.

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITITIONS1. Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.2. Occasional exposure to inclement and extreme weather conditions for hours at a time.

REPORTS TO:This job assignment falls under the daily supervision of the Associate Principal of Operations with programmatic direction received by the Assistant Superintendent of Operations or designee.

SALARY RANGE:Per Collective Bargaining Agreement
