The primary function of a non-CDL Bus Driver is to operate a school bus safely and competently for the purpose of transporting Avon Community School's students to and from school and school sponsored activities on a daily basis. As a non-CDL Bus Driver, punctuality, dependability, and the ability to be through are all desired qualities. This position will require maintaining a high level of confidentiality and attention to detail, ensuring that all corporation policies and procedures are followed, and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations are upheld. A genuine care and concern for all staff and students should be projected, while being an example of exemplary adult behavior for students and other employees. This will be pivotal in maintaining good relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.

Salary Lane:

Hourly pay starting at $20.41.

Assigned Workday Calendar : 181 days (School Year Days)

Part-Time (29 Hours per Week)

Qualifications:Education:

A high school education or equivalent is required.Skills and Knowledge:

Employee should demonstrate adequate skills in driving a school bus and have knowledge of traffic laws.Experience:

No experience required but must receive training to develop necessary driving skills.Certification:

Must hold a minimum of an Operators Driver's License and an Indiana State School Bus Committee Standard Certificate (Yellow Card) and must be a minimum of 21 years of age.Other:

Ability to maintain a positive relationship with pupils, staff, parents, and the community.

Essential Functions

:

See that all children arrive at school and are returned safely and promptly by only stopping at designated stops. Ensure students are only dropped off from the school bus at their regular designated (or parent requested) stop or at school.Maintaining excellent attendance and punctuality are a must, which means arriving and checking in 20 minutes prior to the scheduled departure times, leaving at the appointed time to arrive at each stop as scheduled.Transport only authorized children and adult sponsors to and from school sponsored events.Appoint assigned seats to students to ensure knowledge of who is on board the bus.Acknowledge students by name and address them cordially as they board and depart from the bus.Treat all children in a civil manner, ensuring that no child is imposed upon or mistreated.Instruct students on bus safety rules and enforce transportation student discipline procedures as necessary when rules are not being followed.Attend periodic meetings as scheduled. These meetings shall take place within the 8-hour day/29 hour week including but not limited to staff meetings and the annual driver orientation meeting at the beginning of each year held by the Indiana State Police and Division of School Safety.Keep the bus clean, both inside and outside. The bus should be thoroughly cleaned at the end of each school year. Maintenance mechanic should be informed of needed repairs and any developing mechanical problems. Busses should be in exceptional condition for State Police inspections.Carry out all other duties as set forth in the transportation handbook and as directed by the Transportation Administrator.Other duties assigned by the Transportation Administrator.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
