General Description

SUNY Niagara is seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our leadership team as the Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer. In this pivotal role, you will spearhead transformative JEDI initiatives, champion diversity, and ensure that equity and inclusion are at the forefront of our campus culture. Your leadership will bridge historic systemic inequities, fostering a community where everyone feels valued and empowered.

This position will maintain visibility and credibility throughout the campus community and lead the development and implementation of proactive social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion (JEDI) initiatives. The successful candidate will collaborate with stakeholders to overcome historic systemic inequities within the College, fostering an inclusive and equitable environment for all.

The Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer will assess the progress of the College's current JEDI Action Plan, as well as endeavor to bring together stakeholders within the College and its surrounding community to effectively create and apply subsequent plans. Their engagement with these college stakeholders will focus, but not be limited to: the assessment of potential barriers and the development of strategies to recruit and retain a diverse workforce, assess the need for training initiatives on such topics as cultural competency, gender differences, disability, sexual harassment, and other topics designed to increase awareness and support of equity and inclusion values, in maintenance and compliance with applicable laws. The Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer will actively engage students, faculty, staff, and administration to further behaviors, attitudes, and policies that support JEDI practices at NCCC and NFCI.

Typical Work ActivitiesProvide leadership for the implementation, assessment, and revision as needed of the College's JEDI Action Plan. Seek and pursue opportunities to expand the College's resources for initiatives consistent with that plan.Provide vision and leadership in developing and directing programming for faculty and staff in the areas of JEDI;Support outreach, recruitment, and retention of underrepresented faculty, staff and administrators;Chair the JEDI Committee;Serve as a campus-wide subject matter expert to influence the development of campus policy and programming pertaining to JEDI issues; contribute to the planning, coordination, and possible delivery of such programming, e.g. cultural competency programs;Create and review college policies, procedures, and guidelines related to JEDI matters as they pertain to all aspects of the College's operation;Work closely with Student Services offices to maintain a student recruitment strategy that includes programs and activities that will enable the College to enroll a student population that is increasingly representative of the diversity of the Buffalo/Niagara region;Collaborate with Student Services to create and support affinity groups and develop clear pathways for affinity groups on JEDI issues, participate as a member of the SGA e-board;Identify appropriate metrics and oversee collection of data relevant to benchmarking, assessing, and promoting accountability for the local effectiveness of the SUNY 25-Point Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Action Plan; communicate and collaborate with the SUNY Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion on matters related to the plan;Oversee the development, execution, analysis, and subsequent improvement plans related to campus climate surveys; monitor campus climate and national trends relevant to JEDI foci and provide responsive leadership;Ensure ongoing attentiveness to the College's value of inclusivity through active participation in campus initiatives and on shared governance entities;Work with the grants department to seek funding to enhance and promote the understanding of JEDI issues within the College community;Conduct JEDI-relevant research and analysis; produce reports, correspondence, and provide briefings based on research findings to the College community, e.g., data on the availability of minority members and women in the college labor markets;Maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with federal, state local laws, and SUNY regulations related to title IV, VI, & IX legislation;Prepare reports and narrative materials relevant to the college's JEDI activities and initiatives;Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

Must be able to relate to a diverse population within and external to the College community; be able to speak clearly and make oral and written presentations to various groups/organizations; have thorough knowledge of all applicable laws and regulations, be able to write effectively; be able to read and interpret governmental regulations; be able to maintain effective working relationships with others, work well with in a group atmosphere, and independently, possess excellent organizational ability; sound judgement; courtesy; tact; must be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation; be computer literate and able to accurately gather, maintain, analyze, interpret and report statistical data and develop reports.

Required QualificationsGraduation from a regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.At least three (3) years of experience in diversity, equity and inclusion, preferably in higher education.Desirable Qualifications

Master's degree in a related field;experience working in higher education industry,experience working with diversity and equity programs.Track record for success as an advocate for inclusion and equity in a higher education setting.Proven record of success in leading institution-wide diversity initiatives.Proven expertise in assessment of student learning outcomes, strategic and operational planning, professional employee development and budgeting.Skillful at collaborating with others who have varying perceptions of diversity, equity, and inclusion with understanding to multicultural variances.

The college also operates Savor, a fine dining restaurant, and La Patisserie, a European-style pastry café, at NFCI.
