Plans, performs and documents procedures associated with the provision of respiratory care.
What you will do:
Essential Functions
Demonstrates a commitment to the mission of Swedish Covenant Hospital and demonstrates a service orientation and adheres to all responsibilities and standards of the Hospital.
Conducts respiratory care assessment of the patient, creates a plan of action based on approved guidelines and/or protocols, communicates with the appropriate nurse and physician and then implements a respiration care program for the patient.
Documents all respiratory care related procedures in a concise and complete manner.
Assembles, installs, maintains and adjusts ventilatory equipment based on patient status.
Participates in invasive and non-invasive cardiopulmonary diagnostic procedures.
Participates as a member of the Code Blue Team.
Other Functions
Completes other related assignments as directed by department management.
PATIENT CARE/AGE SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires recognition of the needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups treated, i.e., understanding child growth and development, normal patterns of adolescent behavior and signs of normal aging.
What you will need:
High school graduate or equivalent plus successful completion of an AMA approved Respiratory Care Program
Minimum of six months previous experience as a RT
Must be able to function effectively in the patient care environment, to demonstrate sound communication style in both speaking and writing and to make independent judgement based on established priorities and guidelines. Computer literacy is necessary
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
CRT and licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) in state of IL.
MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
Supervises other RT's (up to five) when acting as Charge Tech.
INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS
Internal: Patients, patients' families, physicians, and hospital staff.
External: Visitors, salespersons and manufacturers' representatives.
ENVIRONMENT
Standing and walking - 75% of the time.
Occasional rolling equipment (up to 10 lbs. of force) and lifting (up to 50 lbs.) patients and respiratory equipment -5% of the time.
Activities include medication administration, ABG's and treatment documentation.
Blood/body fluids and airborne disease hazards are commonly encountered on a daily basis in the process of treating patients and drawing blood.
Good eyesight
Good eye and hand coordination - 95%
Steady hand for procedures
Exposure to airborne diseases - 80%
Exposure to blood borne diseases - 80%
Access To Protected Health Information
Computer system access is assigned based on managers access level request and on the minimum necessary as described in this job description. Approval for level of access is given by the system administrator or manager of the department that has ownership of system/module. See Computer System Access controls policy.
