Coler offers long term and subacute care, rehabilitation, and a dedicated memory care unit, comprised of 150 beds featuring an acclaimed music and memory program. Job Description
Purpose of Position: Under the direction of the Deputy Director of Nursing with the broadest scope for the exercise of independent initiative and judgment, is responsible for the planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating the operational activities of the Nursing Department.
Major duties:• Participates in developing and implementing the patient/resident care programs, the mission, vision, value, philosophy, goals, objectives, policies and standards for nursing service.• Assumes direct responsibility for the twenty-four (24) hour operation and function of the Nursing Department of assigned area.• Directly responsible for the supervision and evaluation of the Assistant Directors of Nursing and for directing the evaluation of personnel performance according to established criteria.• Assumes responsibility for developing and implementing a staffing plan and appropriate utilization of nursing personnel.• In collaboration with the Director of Nursing, participates in the recruitment, election, promotion, retention and placement of nursing personnel.• Promotes a collegial relationship with administration and medical staff and encourages collaboration with all health team members.• Participates in Performance Improvement Program, research and utilizes findings to enhance patient care.• In collaboration with the Director of Nursing, participates in the monitoring of expenditure and staffing activities and assists in the personnel, supply and equipment budget.• Participates in continuing evaluation of nursing service, conducts rounds and chart reviews, Reviews all occurrences and plans corrective action accordingly.• Attends mandatory programs and other continuing education programs to develop and enhance management skills and knowledge.• Performs other related duties.
Minimum Qualifications
Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State, plus (2) or (3) below. 2. A Master's Degree in Nursing Administration, Education or an equivalent field and a minimum of six years of satisfactory nursing experience, of which four years shall have been in a supervisory, teaching or administrative capacity; or, 3. A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and seven years of satisfactory nursing experience, five years of which shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity; or, 4. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
