Job Description
Under the supervision of the assistant director for enterprise planning, the senior planning analyst focuses on significant research and intelligence activities. In general, the incumbent describes the external environment, assesses ASU's performance, and helps set enterprise goals. The incumbent characterizes the economic, social, and policy-related trends that affect ASU's plans; monitors the strategies and finances of organizations relevant to those plans, including other universities, corporations, and governments; and analyzes information about technologies and industries.To do this work, the incumbent applies various research methods to data from many sources: financial filings, news stories, social media content, published interviews, and many administrative datasets, such as the US Census Bureau's American Community Survey Public Use Microdata Sample, Current Population Survey, and Decennial Census; the US Department of Education's Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System and College Scorecard; the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Quarterly Census of Employment & Wages; and the Bureau of Economic Analysis' Regional Economic Accounts. The incumbent communicates results through memoranda, presentations, data visualizations, and white papers.When done well, this work advances ASU's charter of inclusivity and excellence at scale. Working Environment

Minimum Qualifications

Essential Duties
Analyze and understand ASU's goals and their relationship to the external environment. Specifically:
Analyze economic, demographic, and other social conditions and processes and describe current state and trends.Describe and analyze the operating and financial models of corporations and other organizations. Continually monitor organizations of interest to the ASU Public Enterprise.Identify new, innovative technology trends and markets and recommend high-potential acquisitions and investments.Conduct market research, involving assessments of market size, prices, and competitors; identification of growth opportunities; and evaluation of risks.
Compile, maintain, and validate quantitative and qualitative data from internal and external sources. Develop queries to extract data from data warehouses using Alteryx or other query tools. Build and maintain analytical frameworks in Python, R, Stata, or other programming languages.Analyze and interpret data and present findings to various university audiences, including senior leaders. Prepare written technical reports and presentations. Visualize analytical results using dashboards (such as Tableau or Power BI) and geographic information systems.Select appropriate research design, methods, and analytical techniques (including statistical procedures) for a wide range of projects. Use statistical software to perform data computation and statistical analysis. Design and develop models and forecasts that support programmatic and financial planning and decision-making.Manage projects and serve on, or provide staff support to, working groups and other committees.Coordinate with internal and external constituencies to obtain necessary information.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
