SUMMARYThe Custodian, under the supervision of the 2nd Shift Custodian Supervisor, is responsible for the general upkeep and maintenance of the Park District buildings.
QUALIFICATIONS
Building Custodian must be a High School graduate, or have two years working experience in a field related to custodian, cleaning and maintenance workPossess the basic knowledge and experience of building cleaning and maintenance workAbility to operate and maintain various types of equipmentWork weekends and holidays as assignedAbility to cooperate with and interpret Park District philosophies in relation to governmental, public and private groups and agencies and to the general publicStrong knowledge of pertinent safety precautionsAbility to maintain a positive and effective working relationships with other supervisors and subordinate employeesAbility to work harmoniously with fellow employees, patrons, community groups and other units of local governmentAbility to work independently in day-to-day operations with general direction of the Facility Maintenance SupervisorCapacity to utilize effective time management skills and be able to work under the stress of multiple deadlines, requests from other departments and interruptions with accuracyAbility to work in a team atmosphere, promoting positive work relationships with both internal and external customersAbility to demonstrate leadership qualities to perform required workAbility to communicate effectively with fellow staff and the public both orally and in writingCapacity to be self-motivated and achieve goals with minimal supervision or directionAbility to maintain self-control and composure in difficult situationsCapacity to proactively troubleshoot, problem solve and make judgments with respect to confidentialityValid driver's license and be at least 18 years of ageESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Cleans and maintains all building areas and furnishings as assignedSets up equipment and furnishings for recreation programsClean toilets, lavatories, sinks and drinking fountainsSweeps, scrubs, waxes and buffs floors. Also cleans carpetsWashes woodwork, furniture and glassMakes sure all lighting needs are metCare of premises immediately surrounding buildingsAbility to make minor building repairsPerforms other maintenance functions as assignedMust exercise safe work habits and follow the prescribed instructions on all cleaning chemicals that are usedFollow the process and procedures of the Crystal Lake Park District Safety Policy and Employee Policy ManualMARGINAL FUNCTIONS

Must be in condition adequate to conduct onsite inspection of park district facilities and operationsMust be able to perform manual labor with varying degrees of physical exertionMay frequently be required walk, sit, talk and hear.May frequently be required to use hands and/or fingers, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and armsMay frequently be required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawlMust be able to handle average to heavy weight materials, maximum weight 50 pounds without assistance.
