Organization Overview:

Safe Passages is a non-profit organization committed to disrupting the cycle of poverty by supporting our local community. We serve over 5,000 children and families annually through our strategies that span across the life spectrum of birth through young adulthood, including Early Childhood, School Linked Services, Juvenile Justice, and Career Pathways. Safe Passages' work is based on the premise that access to educational opportunities, health services, and family support should not be dictated by race or socio-economic status and that healthy and supported youth are better prepared to learn and succeed.

Program Overview:

AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program that gives you the opportunity to make a difference in your life and help strengthen schools and the students, families, and communities they serve by participating in service and volunteer activities. AmeriCorps VISTA Members commit to a

full-time, one-year term

of service, receiving a monthly stipend and the opportunity to earn an education award in exchange for their service.

Position

Activities:

The Program Development VISTA at Safe Passages plays a pivotal role in enhancing the organization's capacity to deliver comprehensive support services to target school communities. They work collaboratively with staff to develop and implement strategies for program improvement and sustainability, with a focus on data collection, evaluation, and enhancing the quality of services offered.

1. Support Data and Evaluation Capacity:Collaborate with relevant staff to establish infrastructures for program data collection and reporting.Assist in developing protocols and platforms for sharing evaluation findings with staff, school partners, and funders.2. Improve Quality of After School and FRC Programs:

Conduct research on culturally relevant youth development principles to inform program enhancement.Develop and implement training programs based on research findings to enhance the quality of after school services and Family Resource Center (FRC) programs.Conduct research to support the development of grade-level/age-appropriate after school lesson plans and develop templates and tools for lesson planning.

Schedule: This temporary position requires a

full-time commitment of 40 hours per week for one year . The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend commitments as needed to fulfill project requirements and community engagement activities.

Minimum

Eligibility: VISTA members must be 18 years or older (no upper age limit) at the time of starting service and must hold one of the following citizenship or legal residency statuses: US citizen, US National, Lawful Permanent Resident (i.e. Green Card status), and persons legally residing within a state. Additionally, VISTA members must pass a background check and submit a TB test and proof of COVID vaccination to be serve with Safe Passages.
