Primary Purpose:
On a temporary basis, implement district health services program to best meet the needs of the student population on the assigned campus. Provide health services to students. Promote health and safety education for students and preventive health practices for students. Substitute school nurses must also complete a daily report or evaluation to communicate any pertinent information resulting from the day's events.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education programValid registered nurse license (RN) from the Texas Board of NursingValid licensed vocational nurse (LVN) from the Texas Board of NursingCurrent automatic external defibrillator (AED) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificatesCertified by Texas Department of Health to conduct vision and hearing screening preferredCPR Certification preferredSpecial Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defectsAbility to implement policies and proceduresKnowledge of basic first aidProficient keyboarding and file maintenance skillsAbility to write routine reports and correspondenceStrong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
1 -year nursing experience
Experience:
Medical experience, preferably in community health or school organization
Training:
Annual substitute training at the start of each school year.
Salary/Work Days:
Substitute Teacher pay scale; work schedule dependent upon school nurse absences
