Job Summary/Basic Functions
This position monitors and manages the University's cash flow for federal grants, contracts, and financial aid programs; monitors expenditures; calculates reimbursements; and prepares drawdowns. Prepares quarterly and annual financial reports for federal grants; will ensure that expenditures are in compliance with award agreement/contracts; make corrections as necessary in a timely manner; will process electronic fund requests and ensures appropriate recordation in the University's accounting system (Banner); will handle the University petty cash account; will process reimbursement requests; will perform change fund audits and annually prepare the petty cash certification (GLA-103) to the Department of Accounts; will assist with the printing and processing of local funds and emergency check requests; will maintain check inventory; will process stop payments; will process wire payments to/from local banks and EDI payments received from the Department of Accounts; will reconcile and ensure prompt reimbursement
Minimum Qualifications
*Considerable knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Practices (GAAP), and pronouncements of the Governmental Accounting Standard Board (GASB), as they apply to Colleges and Universities.
*Working knowledge of Fund and Grant accounting concepts and practices particular to Colleges and Universities.
*Demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret, and apply complex policies and procedures; and prepare reports and statements covering complex financial data.
*Demonstrated ability to work independently with moderate supervision as well as in a team environment and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
*Demonstrated ability to apply and adapt accounting principles and methods to a variety of agency or institution fiscal needs.
*Some familiarity and/or experience with the Commonwealth of Virginia CAPP manual; and, experience working with and/or some knowledge of the chart of accounts.
*Knowledge of banking practices related to cash management is a plus.

*Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major studies in accounting or have taken the required courses for such a degree. is preferred.
*Demonstrated knowledge working with the Banner and Cardinal accounting systems is a plus.
*At least three (3) years of experience working in a fast-paced higher education business environment.
