Job Description:The job of the Accounting Supervisor is to lead the accounting functions of the Olympia School District. This position supervises a team of three staff, providing leadership and guidance in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger accounting. The Accounting Supervisor also works closely with the Director of Finance and budget team on various projects including budgeting, auditing, year-end closing, evaluating, and reconciling. Excellent Excel and analyzing skills required. Must be a detail-oriented person with the ability to work independently as well as cooperatively and effectively as a member of the Business Services team and with school staff in their efforts to manage resources effectively.
This position works Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day. Work hours may vary and typically begin between 7:30am and 8:30am, and end between 4:30pm and 5:30pm.

Job Functions:1. Major Programmatic Responsibilities
(Oversight, Leadership, Policy-level Decision-Making):Provide leadership of district accounting operations to ensure integrity as trustees of local, state, and federal funds used in Olympia School District.Implement and maintain the school district's accounting system in accordance with the state and district accounting guidance. Ensure legality, accuracy, and timely recording of all financial transactions.2. Major Operational Responsibilities
(Day-to-Day Tasks, Planning, Judgment):
Assist with functions of budget, payroll, employee benefits, inventory, district receipts, month-end andyear-end closing journal vouchers, year-end reconciliation processes.Audit and monitor various programs including P-card, cash accounts, and grants. Conduct internalaudits of various funds as needed.Act as district grants administrator; manage all grants and grant claiming process. (This position is notresponsible for writing grant applications.)Completion and filing of federal and state reports such as 1099's and unclaimed property. Prepare theannual SEFA reporting during year-end closing.Maintain specific billing and monitoring, management and oversight of the district's point of salesystem, and review vouchers prepared by Accounts Payable staff. Oversee school district bankingincluding bank deposits and bank reconciliations.Over sees the district account code structure in accordance with the state accounting manual; maintainsthe chart of accounts in all systems; train other Business Services leaders as back-up to this function.Maintain permissions, filters and routing in district financial systems based on staff assignments andorganizational accounting principles.Supervise building budgets, make initial school budget allocations and fall adjustments, calculatecarryforward budget adjustments, and support school and depart staff with budget inquiries.Work with IT department to troubleshoot technical issues with the business system and to ensureaccounting processes are performed accurately and efficiently, including the testing process for newversion upgrades in the Accounting system.3. Legal & Safety Compliance
(Federal, State, District, Collective Bargaining Agreements):
Maintains current knowledge of rules, legislation, technology, and procedures governing schoolaccounting and financial operations. Assists in implementing new legislative and regulatoryrequirements.Assist with finance related public records requests.Under the direction of the Director of Finance, provide audit requested information to state auditors.4. Supervision:
Supervise and coordinate the day-to-day work of accounting staff including accounts payable, accountsreceivable, banking, credit cards, financial reporting, and general ledger accounting for all funds.5. Fiscal Analysis and Other Responsibilities:
Train staff, principals, and administrators on accounting, fiscal reporting and budget monitoring.Create and design forms for fiscal processes.Improve and/or create tools and processes to support financial analysis or overall finance teamfunctions. Recommend new accounting and financial management methods as desirable and necessary.Attends training, conferences, vendor presentations, district meetings and other activities as needed forprofessional development.Directs, coordinates, or completes special projects as assigned by the Director of Finance or AssistantSuperintendent and assists in other fiscal endeavors as necessary.Job Requirements - Qualifications:KNOWLEDGE OF:Accounting and School Fiscal OperationsKnowledge of governmental fund accounting, audit and financial reporting. Ability to research, organize, andpresent findings to leadership and make sound recommendations.

Demonstrated experience in compiling andanalyzing detailed and complex data into advanced spreadsheets.

Minimum Qualifications:Position requires a Bachelor's degree, which includes 18 quarter or 12 semester hours in accounting, auditing,or budgeting and two to three years of relevant professional experience. Relevant professional experience maysubstitute for education. WASBO School Accounting Series may count toward required accounting credits.
Preferred 3 years supervisory or management experience with demonstrated ability to successfully lead othersto achieve common goals. Experience developing, coaching and evaluating staff, and if necessarycommunicating performance improvement plans.
Preferred successful experience working with culturally diverse families and communities or have otherwisedemonstrated a commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skill incommunicating with diverse populations.
Experience providing professional development to individuals and groups.Expert in the use of Microsoft Office Software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Google suite of tools (Drive,Sheets, Docs, Slides, Forms). Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate and complete financial records.Preferred expert in Skyward Financial Management and Human Resources Systems.
