ABOUT JOB

Simmons University is seeking a Director for the Multicultural Center (MCC) to advance the university's commitment to inclusive excellence. This role is student facing, and involves strategic planning, delivering impactful programs and training, and organizing initiatives that uphold the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). The Director will create a supportive Simmons community where every student can thrive, requiring a profound understanding of DEI pedagogy, a clear theory of change, and an entrepreneurial spirit.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Programming and Training (35%)Develop and implement strategies and programming to foster inclusion and equity for historically underrepresented students.

Oversee the MCC Bridge and First to Finish programs. Advocate for BIPOC and First-Generation students and provide resources that focus on personal development, student success, leadership capacity, professional growth, and post graduate opportunities.

Manage the LGBTQ+ Resource Center. Plan and facilitate programs for LGBTQ+ individuals and groups.

Design programs and workshops promoting dialogue on DEI issues and social justice topics for undergraduate and graduate students.

Collaborate with the Simmons commencement team to host the Graduate Affinity Commencement Celebration.

Coordinate cultural heritage and affinity month celebrations and awareness campaigns.

Conduct DEI training sessions for faculty, staff, and students.

Collaborative Programming & Stakeholder Engagement (25%)

Collaborate with academic departments, advancement, admissions, student engagement, and local/national community partners to enhance programmatic efforts and cultivate identity-based resources.

Work with the Director of the Center for Leadership Engagement to mentor 16 affinity groups and provide DEI training to student leaders.

Partner with the Office of Residence Life to support Themed Housing Communities (BIPOC, Trans Non-Binary etc.) to provide intentional programming that focuses on uplifting and empowering student voices.

Serve on the Undergraduate Student Orientation Committee. Support Student Engagement and Residential Life during move-in weekend. Develop programing and other initiatives that align with and enhance the goals and outcomes of orientation.

Serve on the Colleges of the Fenway DEI and MLK Committees.

Serve on the Simmons Campus Climate Task Force.

Operations and Logistics (25%)

Manage daily operations of the MCC, including budget oversight and expenditure monitoring.

Supervise space management: facilities and maintenance requests, supply orders, and operational procedures.

Ensure the MCC website is current, and utilize social media and newsletters to promote events.

Hire, supervise, and develop the MCC team.

Data Collection, Analysis, and Reporting (15%)

Collect and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of MCC and DEI initiatives.

Support the AVP of Diversity, Strategy and Engagement with programmatic data insights for university leadership.

Prepare an annual report documenting MCC initiatives and outcomes.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in higher education administration, student development, counseling, or related field preferred.

Minimum of 4 years of experience in multicultural affairs, diversity and inclusion, or student activities, particularly with underrepresented populations.

Proven success in program planning and implementation, focusing on high-impact DEI initiatives.

Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills, fostering team development and accountability.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with strong community-building and facilitation skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Proven adaptability in dynamic and diverse environments, with strong problem-solving abilities.

Flexibility to accommodate student schedules, including nights and weekends, while handling sensitive issues with discretion and empathy.

Familiarity with communication and marketing tools, including Canva and social media platforms.
