Dometic Marine's facility in Huntsville, AL specializes in mobile power solutions and manufactures engine ignition replacement parts, DC charging systems, and battery monitoring systems for boats.

The Electrical Product Designer reports to the Director of Engineering and will focus on product development including design, verification, validation, launch, and support of electromagnetic products and components for Marine AC / DC charging systems, lithium-ion battery integration, connectivity, and mobile power solutions for inboard and outboard leisure craft. You will develop embedded electronic solutions within products to meet cost and functional targets.

Candidate needs to have a focused expertise in electromagnetics with specific experience designing rotors, stators and rectifiers for electric generators, alternators or motors is desired.

Main responsibilities:

Prepare design documentation for new products and components such as PCBA engineering specifications, drawings, and test reportsDesign circuits including schematic capture, component selection, PCB layout, and routing using Altium Designer (or an equivalent electronic CAD program), in accordance with Dometic and ISO 9001 requirements and proceduresParticipate in the full development cycle including requirements analysis, design, development, implementation, validation, documentation, and ongoing supportSupport real-time firmware development team with microcontroller selectionHold design reviews and conduct validation tests (environmental, EMC, HASS / HALT, etc.)Maintain Bill of Materials for electronic assembliesParticipate in "make versus buy" decisions for components and/or assembliesProvide estimates of product cost and development effortParticipate in creating development schedules and then work to these schedulesDevelop project plans, coordinate activities, and report on project statusWork in multi-function new product development teams including program/product management, manufacturing engineering, supply chain management, and productionInteract with customers and suppliers and represent Dometic MarineAssist in applications support and troubleshooting as requiredRequirements

Qualifications and experience:

University or technical Institute degree or qualifications in electrical, computer, electro-mechanical, or a related engineering disciplineMinimum 5 years of industry or relevant electronic design experienceConsumer electronic product design experience and new product development experience, ideally related to automotive and/or safety critical systemsStrong proficiency working with suppliers and consultants on power electronics and batteriesStrong proficiency in Altium Designer or equivalent electronic CAD programKnowledge of microcontroller parameters related to selecting components based on specifications and applicationsFamiliar with PCB manufacturing processes and fabrication capabilities, specifically as it relates to interfacing with external fabrication housesWorking knowledge of communication interfaces such as CAN, SPI, I2C, or RS232Experience with troubleshooting EMC related issues during the certification testing of a productFamiliar with lithium batteries and battery managementFamiliar with power invertors and chargers including AC/DC and DC/DC power conversionKnowledge of industry standards such as SAE, ASTM, ISO, and ISO 9001Familiar with ERP systems to control engineering Bill of MaterialsFamiliar with firmware program languages such as C, C++, and assembly for embedded controllers such as Freescale, NXP, and ARMStrong proficiency with MS Office programs including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPointStrong understanding of hardware/software interface issues and understanding of hardware system designsBehavioral requirements:
