Job SummaryEmployee is responsible for the operation, maintenance and construction of the City's water distribution system, with the use of medium equipment such as a backhoe, front end loader, dump truck and similar equipment. Uses a variety of departments equipment to dig trenches, repair manholes, and perform a wide range of tasks around trees, wires, cars, and personal property and fellow workers. Essential Job FunctionsMaintain regular and prompt attendance; physically present to work. Prepare inventory counts.Assist to clean up shops by cleaning and organizing units as well as sewer back-ups as needed.Primarily operates equipment for waterline inspection such as excavators, backhoe, forklifts, skid steer loaders, trenchers, dump trucks, and flushing equipment.Installs, repairs, maintains water distribution systems such as water pipes, fittings, valves, manholes, water meters, and other water distribution components, and as necessary, sewer collection system components.May perform inspections on new water lines, sewer lines, and manholes to verify acceptability to city standards for prevention of water loss and sewer infiltration and inflow.May perform locates on utilities.Maintain required records and forms and submits reports as required.Follows safety procedures and policies including confined space entry.Must adhere to and follow, City and department policies and procedures at all times while at work.Employee may be required to work beyond normal business hours at night an/or on weekends. Assist with emergency response as needed by city hall and local EOC.Performs other similar or related duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications & RequirementsMust have High School diploma, or equivalent (GED)One (1) to three (3) years of related work experience to perform such job.Applicant must pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen at City's expense.Applicant must have current valid Class "C" Driver's License and be insurable.Must have high school diploma; or equivalent.Must successfully complete Emergency Management and Incident Command Training.Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.Knowledge, Abilities and SkillKnowledge of safety practices.Knowledge of work hazards and ability to take necessary safety precautions in performing assigned duties and use of tools and equipment.Knowledge of proper installation of water lines, sewer lines, manholes, related fittings, and equipment thereof.Knowledge of operating procedures for all equipment, including heavy equipment assigned.Working Conditions/Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk, see smell, and hear.May be required to lift and/or move up to sixty (60) pounds on a regular basis and up to one hundred (100) pounds on an occasional basis, with specialized equipment or assistance.
