Division of Gaming:
Ensures that limited gaming is conducted honestly, fairly, and competitively, and is free from criminal and corrupt elements.
What we do:
Fulfill the declaration of the General Assembly of the State of Colorado, which states that the success of gaming is dependent upon public confidence and trust that limited gaming is conducted honestly and competitively, that the rights of creditors of licensees are protected and that gaming is free from criminal and corruptive elements, Section 44-30-102,
C.R.S. This is achieved, in part, by ensuring that gaming taxes are properly reported and paid and that licensees comply with Gaming Rules, Regulations, and Internal Control Minimum Procedures.
A typical day of an Auditor Intern:
Provide audit assistance to the Lead Auditor and Audit Manager to learn how to complete revenue audits and conduct all aspects of compliance audits of licensees.
Assignments are structured and performed with the direction and assistance from others with the intent to train positions for a higher level.
Auditor Intern must work with the Audit Manager & staff within the immediate work unit to build a foundation of sound reasoning and judgment to learn how to apply sufficient interpretation consistent with the intent of such requirement(s) as applicable.
Revenue and Compliance Audits
Assist the Audit Manager and staff within the immediate work unit to learn how to examine records and interview licensee staff to complete revenue and compliance audits by completing the audit and review steps outlined in the audit and review programs.
Begin building an understanding of the objectives, rules, regulations and ICMP of the Division of Gaming and the Audit Section as it relates to Revenue and Compliance Audits.
Assist the Audit Manager and staff within the immediate work unit to learn how to collect, examine and analyze data to prepare reports that detail a summary of the results of the review and audit work performed (work papers) and identify possible findings and recommendations.
Audit and Compliance Findings and Recommendations
Assist the Audit Manager and staff within the immediate work unit to learn how to develop findings and recommendations needed to bring licensees into compliance with ICMP or Gaming Regulations.
Assist the Audit Manager and staff within the immediate work unit to learn how to prepare reports and presentations.
Assist the Audit Manager and staff within the immediate work unit to learn how to evaluate gaming technology to ensure compliance with the Internal Controls and proper calculation and reporting of Adjusted Gross Proceeds.
Stakeholder Interaction & Training
Assist the Audit Manager and staff within the immediate work unit to learn how to understand how the Section responds to technical inquiries of licensee’s, how to clarify, counsel and advise on the Division’s interpretations of the rules, regulations, and ICMP to licensees.
Promote a positive image of the Division to others and strive for a good working relationship with other Division staff, licensees, CPA firms, attorneys, and other interested parties.
Work with the Audit Manager and staff within the immediate work unit to learn how to identify gaps in the knowledge of those being trained and participate in training others on the proper application of ICMPs and the completion of tax returns and other related documents.
