As an Apprentice with Carrier, you will uniquely impact our customers, becoming the face of the confidence we stand by while ensuring their comfort. You will have the opportunity to learn Commercial HVAC and will be critical in working on various installations, repairs, and maintenance projects. Qualifications:High School Diploma/GEDA minimum of 3+ years of practical working experience in the HVAC IndustryA valid driver’s license is requiredAbility to enter into the Union Apprentice Program or currently enrolledPush/pull/liftupto 50lbs
Essential Task Description: (daily tasks and duties)Inspect air-conditioning units to ensure efficient operationPerform regularly scheduled maintenance on heating and cooling unitsDiagnose mechanical and electrical malfunctionsInstall, replace, or repair damaged equipment; calibrate thermostatic controlsInstall new heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems; repair and replace damaged or worn heating, ventilation and air-conditioning parts and equipment; repair or replace low- and high-pressure liquid linesInspect and observe pressure of liquids and vapor with instrumentation to ensure efficient operation of unit and make necessary adjustment; inspect and service refrigeration equipment including refrigerators, ice machines, gas packs, and heat pumpsMaintain the chilled and hot water supply systemsAdjust and maintain internal electrical and electronic control systems; cleans coils, blowers, checks motors, and belt tensionsAssemble and install metal ductworkAssist in planning and designing of new installations of heating and air-conditioning systemsMaintain maintenance records as required by City, State, and EPA regulationsPerforms additional duties and responsibilities as requiredRecognize and identify potential risks and hazards associated with performing all work-related duties safelyWork to mitigate potential risks associated with essential dutiesCollaborate with management personnel to maintain safe working environments
Knowledge of:Principles and practices of Heating, Venting, Air Conditioning (HVAC) maintenance and repair; hazard and safety practices common to the tradeHVAC controls and safety devices; appropriate Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) / chemical usages; tools of the trade; materials and refrigerant recovery equipment and procedures used in installing, repairing and maintaining HVAC systemsComputerized electrical circuits and systems as they relate to air-conditioning, heating, ventilating, and refrigerated coolingSheet metal, electrical, plumbing and carpentryBasic understanding of building automation controls
