About the Organization The Museum of Life and Science, one of North Carolina's top family destinations, has been a beloved Durham institution for 75 years. The Museum features 84 acres of exhibits, experiences, and outdoor exploration, including one of the East Coast's largest butterfly conservatories and a two-story science center. As an accredited zoo, the Museum is home to lemurs, black bears, endangered red wolves, and more than 140 species of live animals, butterflies, and insects. Readers of Durham Magazine, Indy Week, and Carolina Parent have repeatedly named us the top Museum in the Triangle. The Museum partners with NASA, NOAA, the National Science Foundation, Duke University, NC State University, and the University of North Carolina on many research projects and programs.

Description
Position Objective:
Support the Museum's mission by being a positive and proactive member of the Special Events Team, providing exemplary customer service to Museum guests and patrons at Family Fundraising and Adult AfterHours events. This position would be ideal for candidates looking for a secondary source of income.
Responsibilities Provide excellent customer service to all event attendees by anticipating guest needs and being knowledgeable about the Museum facility, policies, exhibits, and events. Support the set-up of events including but not limited to tables and chairs, assisting with decorations as needed and providing entrance into Museum facilities for volunteers and vendors. Maintain a warm, friendly, safe Museum environment while, checking in ticketholders, monitoring Museum exhibits and spaces, ensuring that NC ABC Laws, Durham County smoking ordinance, COVID safety requirements and applicable Museum policies are maintained and enforced. Support the clean-up of events, including but not limited to removing trash and recycling, resetting exhibits, breaking down tables and chairs, ensuring guests and vendors leave the facility as they found it and with all belongings. Follow Museum procedures for emergencies by assisting the Emergency Coordinator and other Museum staff in emergency situations as directed. Take direction from and support the Special Events Team staff with other duties as needed. Actual Pay Rate: $15.00/hour
Position Requirements
High school diploma/GED 3+ years' customer service experience Works well independently, with keen observation skills and desire to be proactive about visitor needs and guest environment Ability to respond appropriately to emergencies with provided training Available to work a mix of daytime, evenings, and weekends. Events are on an inconsistent schedule from one per month to many evenings in a row. Shifts range from 2-8 hours. Capable of working outside in changing weather conditions Ability to move materials up to 20 lbs. and assist team with setup and breakdown of events. Ability to travel long distances across campus on varying terrain Valid US driver's license Desired:
