The Controller is responsible for the accounting operations of the Bank, assisting in the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the Banks reported financial results and ensure that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), as well as state and federal banking regulations. This position is responsible for managing the Bank’s general ledger and prepares and maintains financial statements, records, and reports on a daily, monthly and annual basis. Supervisory responsibility includes supervision and development of accounting/finance staff.ResponsibilitiesOversees all aspects of the Bank’s accounting function, including general ledger, accounts payable, fixed assets, prepaids and accruals.Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures including appropriate internal controls over financial reporting in accordance with FDICIA.Leads the monthly financial close process including timely recording of journal entries, reconciliations and preparation of financial statements for the Bank and related entities.Responsible for maintenance of the general ledger, both the core GL and Prologue (GL system of record), as well as interfaces with other platforms and systems.Prepares the Call Report and other regulatory reports as assigned.Assists in the preparation of information for internal and external auditors, including the preparation of the fiscal year-end consolidated financial statements.Responsible for managing the accounting team and providing support, coaching and mentoring as needed.Performs a variety of accounting and financial control functions in conformance with established bank strategies, policies and procedures.Reviews financial reports prepared for senior management and Board meetings.Oversees holding company accounting and regulatory reporting.Creates the Bank’s annual calendar year budget and forecasts.Maintains open lines of communication with the CFO to keep the CFO informed of critical accounting and financial reporting issues.Exercises judgment and independent discretion in decision-making, ensuring alignment with the Bank’s strategic goals and objectives.Maintains GAAP knowledge and complies with all federal and state tax laws and regulations and all established bank policies and procedures.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.CPA required.3 to 5 years of relevant work experience in public accounting or community banking preferred.Requires broad knowledge of accounting principles and practices within the financial services industry.Bank regulatory reporting experience preferred.
