Apprentice Building Engineer

SUMMARY:
This is an entry-level position that offers on-the-job training and provides a pathway to a career as a Building Engineer. As an Apprentice Building Engineer, you will work under the supervision of the Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief, and Lead Engineer to learn general preventive maintenance and corrective repair for buildings, industrial systems, equipment, and grounds.
The goal is to equip you with the skills and knowledge necessary to complete work orders with minimal supervision in areas such as building equipment maintenance, grounds maintenance, painting, caulking, HVAC, plumbing, drywall, electrical work, and other maintenance tasks as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Assist with troubleshooting and repairs of buildings and installed systems to include, but not limited to plumbing systems, kitchen equipment, roofs, drains, Fans, Coils, and HVAC.Assist in performing general maintenance, preventive maintenance and corrective repair of buildings, industrial systems, equipment, and grounds.Basic repair of doors, ceilings, hand railings, drywall, and floors, building lighting system, including element and ballast repairs or replacements.Assist in maintenance duties, including changing filters, oiling motors, replacing light fixtures, inspecting/adjusting belts, replacing bearings, aligning shafts and annual inspections as directed by manufacturers.Learn to inspect and understand the reasoning behind the inspection of building systems including fire alarm, HVAC, and plumbing to ensure operation of equipment is within design capabilities and achieves environmental conditions.Respond quickly to emergency situations, summoning additional assistance as needed.Possess competent knowledge of the use and care of tools and equipment used in facility and on the grounds.Comply with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency and Company directives related to building operations and practice safe work habits.Perform other duties as assigned.Requirements
EDUCATION AND REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Required High school diploma or general education degree (GED)Preference experience in related or adjacent field.Preferred trade school training or equivalent combination of education and experience.Preferred Stationary Engineers Apprenticeship SMA or willingness to obtain once on-the-jobRequired Valid Drivers License with no restrictions.SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS :
Basic skills with Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and ExcelGeneral understanding or desire to learn of HVAC, electrical, plumbing and building automation systems.Ability to understand and give general instructions in standard situations.Strong organizational and analytical skills.Strong communication skills.May require shift work, nights, overtime and/or on-call duties.Stooping, standing, climbing and frequent lifting of a minimum of 50 lbs. of equipment (pump, tools, ladders) and ability to safely install rigging/lifting device.May be required to work extended periods of time without relief when responding to priority/emergency situations (including overtime type assignments).Climb ladders and stairs.
