Location: Albany, NY Category: Promotional Posted On: Fri Nov 1 2024 Job Description: The University at Albany's Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM) is seeking a lead web specialist to be part of the marketing team. This position reports to the director of web services. The lead web specialist will supervise a team of web specialists, oversee their daily work and take an active role in web projects. In addition, the lead web specialist will be responsible for creating impactful online communications and consistent web design solutions that uphold the University brand, meet strategic marketing goals, and effectively facilitate university operations with a focus on recruitment, enrollment marketing, student retention and the internal community. The lead web specialist works closely with individual university departments, units and divisions to understand their online communications needs, edit web content, advise on best practices and division procedures, assist in the production of assets to meet goals and monitor outcomes. The incumbent will provide guidance and training to staff within their assigned service areas. This position will serve as liaison between the assigned service area and the University Office of Communications and Marketing, providing best practices and ensuring the website is meeting strategic marketing, enrollment, and reputational goals. This person will be an integral member of the department, helping to form strong relationships between their service areas and OCM while providing guidance and oversight to a team of web specialists. Primary Responsibilities: Supervise and lead a team of web specialists Oversee the daily work of the web specialists and be their first point contact for direction and feedback Provide coverage for web specialists' work during staff outages Administer and monitor the ticketing system for website requests Manage the web services departmental email account and respond to inquiries Take a leadership role in website projects Assist in identifying and correcting accessibility and quality issues in content including broken links, spelling, grammatical errors, off-brand content and poorly performing sites Work with assigned service areas to provide guidance on and lead in the execution of clear, effective, on-brand web-based communications including website architecture, writing, editing, design, layout, monitoring and updating Provide ongoing training and troubleshooting to CMS (web content management system) and other online application users Lead meetings/engagement with stakeholders and site owners to discuss and determine website and marketing plans and select online tools and content to meet set goals Create and uphold a rigorous schedule of site review, refresh, renewal and removal of site content, technology and pages Work with the creative team, web designers and developers to provide creative, effective and on-brand solutions in the online space Communicate the launch or updating of sites, monitor site performance, optimize performance, and provide regular performance reports and presentations Regularly monitor website performance and analytics and work with leadership to continually optimize content and performance Collaborate with the internal team and clients to determine best practices to track website effectiveness and overall success Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized organization 3-5 years supervisory experience in web communications, writing, editing, design, development, content creation or related areas Experience using an enterprise web CMS Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 web accessibility requirements Experience in search engine optimization (SEO) techniques Proficient in articulating messages with clarity and tact in both written and verbal forms of communication Skilled in proactively engaging in responsibilities while respecting established roles and protocols Experience delivering regular project status reports using project management software or similar communication tools. Utilized a web request ticketing system or other communication tool to identify and quickly resolve project issues or requests.
