Title: Senior Secretary Employee Classification: CS - Clerical/Secretarial Pay Grade: CS 05 Division: Academic and Student Affairs Subdivision: School of Engineering Department: College of Engineering & Technology Campus Location: Main Campus General Summary Provide secretarial assistance to Academic Department Head/Director or the equivalent level administrator. Requires independent knowledge of the policies and procedures of a major operating unit. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Answer questions from Faculty, staff, students, and interested persons on University and Departmental policies and procedures. Answer inquiries from visitors and telephone calls, or refer them to appropriate personnel. Use word processing, spreadsheet, and data processing software on computer systems. Type and proof correspondence, forms, and reports. Maintain and monitor sick and annual leave information, employee schedules, payroll, budgets, and other Departmental records. Read and interpret incoming mail, and assemble files and other materials to facilitate reply by supervisor; and respond to inquiries. Maintain statistics; code and monitor expenditures for the Department. Initiate and prepare requisitions for materials, supplies, and services. Coordinate meetings; and schedule conferences, facilities, and services. Operate common office equipment. Assist in the training or orientation of new employees. Prepare travel and accommodation arrangements. If applicable to area of assignment, adhere to any and all NCAA, Mid-American Conference and Eastern Michigan University policies, rules, regulations, and operational procedures. Perform related departmental duties, as required. Minimum Qualifications: Ability to read, write, interpret instructions, and perform basic arithmetic, typically acquired through the completion of a high school education, is necessary.

Three years of secretarial experience is necessary.

One year of experience, which provides knowledge of University policies, procedures, and regulations, is desirable.

Basic personal computing skills to utilize word processing and/or spreadsheet applications, and perform file management functions, are necessary.

A specific typing speed may be required depending on departmental needs and it should be noted at time of posting.

Knowledge of the University's Red Flags Rule and Identify Theft Prevention Policy and Procedure. Preferred Qualifications: One year of experience, which provides knowledge of University policies, procedures, and regulations, is desirable. Knowledge of specific software applications utilized in the area of assignment may be desirable. Appointment Percentage: 100%
