The MGH Health Equity and Community Health (CCHI) program collaborates with underserved communities to improve health. It carries out the fourth leg of the hospital's mission which is to "improve the health and well-being of the diverse communities we serve." Charlestown is among the communities where MGH has a deep and enduring commitment by providing health care at MGH Charlestown HealthCare Center and through community health improvement via community coalitions, namely The Charlestown Coalition.MGH is the "backbone" organization of this coalition. Comprised of key community stakeholders MGH provides coalition staff, evidence-based practices for coalitions to follow, training and technical assistance, grant-writing, evaluation, and more. The Charlestown Coalition supported by MGH HECH promotes a healthier community through the development and implementation of policy, systems, and environmental changes, to prevent substance use disorders and other social and structural determinants of health and their effects on residents of Charlestown, Massachusetts. The goal is to engage the entire Charlestown community, secure partnerships, and collaborations with all stakeholders, assess community needs, collect baseline data, secure grant funding, develop multiple interventions within different domains, and measure progress through process outcomes and health indicators. Turn It Around is a youth enrichment program within the Charlestown Coalition, which works to enhance protective factors for youth members and the community at large.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Under the direction of the Charlestown Coalition Director, the Program Coordinator will act as the community liaison for the Charlestown Coalition by attending community meetings, collaborating with partners, and engaging residents during community events. The Program Coordinator will facilitate event planning for the Coalition while supporting staff with administrative and communication tasks. The Program Coordinator will adhere to the Coalition's strategic plan and collaborate with community partner organizations, to implement the Charlestown Coalition's work plans. Work plans are adapted regularly to meet the changing needs of the community.* Serve as a community liaison for the Coalition by engaging local, city, state, and federal levels to identify partnerships and resources that will address the community's priorities within the Coalition's work plans.* Collaborate with the Coalition Director to build capacity, maintain a representative and diverse working group membership, and help develop new community partners.* Represent the Charlestown Coalition at local and city meetings providing program updates and exploring opportunities to collaborate with partner organizations. This may include but is not limited to the Alternative to Violence Breakfast, the Boston Youth Prevention Meetings, and the Charlestown safety meeting.* Educate and share information about the Coalition's work at community events while promoting the Coalition's social media accounts and newsletters.* Collectively work and support the Charlestown Coalition Youth Program Coordinator, Charlestown providers, and Boston youth workers to coordinate youth prevention efforts in Charlestown.* Responsibilities may include supporting Coalition programs (the Steering Committee, Trauma Team, Peace Park, TIA, Recovery Court) events through various tasks such as social media marketing, event setup and preparation, and coordinating community service activities.* Interact effectively, and respectfully with youth, families, partners, coalition staff, and the MGB community.* Maintain the health and safety of the community, and adhere to the local, state, and federal laws and MGB's policies.* Act as a mandated reporter and file 51a with the Department of Children, Youth, and Families, if youth are at risk or experiencing abuse or neglect.* Participate in Coalition and Youth Prevention trainings* Duties may include daily office tasks such as ordering supplies, submitting catering orders, updating the constant contact email distribution list, and address books.Support Coalition staff with exploring funding opportunities, fundraising, and grant writingQualifications
Minimum of 1-5 years of experience in public health, social work, community coalitions, or related fields.Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working with youth, multicultural communities, and various community stakeholders through the field of social work, or public healthKnowledge of substance use prevention framework & importance of coalition building and racial equity in community-based work preferred.Community management, coalition work, strategy planning, community health, knowledge of social media and creating content, creative mindset, leadership, communication, and writing skills are preferred* Experience conducting administrative tasks for fast-paced departments or organizations.* Knowledge and experience using the latest communication technology and current communication and social marketing strategies including Constant Contact, WordPress, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn* Knowledge and skills in community organizing and event planning* Strong interpersonal skills* Strong computer skills. Proficient in all Microsoft Applications, including MS Office and PowerPoint and database applications* Strong written and verbal skills* Demonstrated ability to multi-task* Strong time management and planning skills* Familiarity with public health methods, and the model of community coalitions* Ability to troubleshoot challenges and engage a wide range of stakeholders* Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team member in multicultural settings* Demonstrated commitment to helping underserved and marginalized populations* Experience working with youth* Bilingual preferredA flexible schedule is required, hours include occasional evenings and weekends. Hybrid option available 1-2 days per week. Most of the work will be in the community or at the office.
