AIG Underwriting teams help to find insurance solutions in areas including Financial Lines, Property, Casualty, Specialty Lines, Cyber, and Multinational Clients. Reporting to the Head of Retail Property, North America, this role is key in the design and implementation of the underwriting strategy for Retail Property. As part of the product leadership team you will have responsibility for the overall growth and profitability of the portfolio through leadership of the key underwriting practice of Ground Up business. In addition, the position is responsible for contributing to developing a team of highly accomplished, driven colleagues.
How you will create an impact
Responsible for the P&L within North American Retail Property.
Responsible for the highest level day-to-day referrals/approvals within North American Retail Property.
Development and successful execution of key initiatives for the Retail Property portfolio.
Lead, direct and control strategic, financial, and operating plans within the scope of you practice to ensure the organization achieves its short and long-term objectives as set by the overall corporate business plan; and inform and choreograph implementation of key objectives.
Monitor the competitive environment to identify business threats and opportunities and develop business plans to address them.
Drive consistent distribution and underwriting best practices and guidelines to ensure rating and pricing adequacy of the business.
Ensure effective utilization of detailed monitoring standards including quality reviews to assess underwriting results and loss ratios down to the account level.
Mentor regional leaders to develop and implement business strategies with local insights.
Partner closely with General Insurance product leaders, to enhance and integrate all complimentary product offerings.
Co-create business strategy within global framework, focusing on risk appetite that impacts profitability and effectively manages risk.
Oversee decisions regarding pricing strategies, resource allocations and talent assessments.
Ensure alignment between the underwriting platform and CUO, Distribution, Claims, Actuarial, Finance and other functions to achieve product and company goals.
Monitor monthly KPI’s on Retail Property’s UW Scorecard
What you’ll need to succeed
Strategic orientation, managing vision and purpose, developing organizational capability.
Talent assessment and development for bench strength and succession planning.
Proven collaborative leadership skills.
Strong influencing and communications skills and ability to work across multiple areas of company and industries.
Change management and team leadership.
External and internal thought leadership.
Minimum of 15 years of large commercial property insurance experience with an emphasis on engineered risk. Oversight of multiple products and geographies, as well as at least 10 years of staff management experience is preferred.
Proven strategic leadership skills in developing vision and purpose, driving for results and leading effective teams.
Knowledge of market segmentation, portfolio management, acquisition, and distribution.
Demonstrated excellent marketing, influencing, negotiating and communication skills.
Proven insurance business development background.
Established strong relationships with customers and intermediaries.
Demonstrated business savvy, analytical, and quantitative skills.
Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
For positions based in New York City, the base salary range is $283,000-$350,000 and the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
