JOB DETAILS Position Title Iron and Steel Worker Location Central Division Functionally Reports into Superintendent FLSA Status Non-Exempt JOB OBJECTIVE The Iron and Steel Worker will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining the structural components of buildings and bridges made of iron and steel. They work in a variety of settings including construction sites, factories, and industrial plants. This job requires physical strength, manual dexterity, and a deep understanding of the principles of construction. REQUIREMENTS EXPERIENCE Must have 4 years' experience as a Structural Ironworker. Must be able to take lead in erection of steel, fabrication, grid layout, rigging etc. Must have knowledge of all types of safe rigging practices (chokers, slings, etc.) Must have a valid Driver's License. Must have reliable transportation. Must pass drug and background check. Must possess a NCCER KNOWLEDGE Read blueprints and specifications to determine the scope of work: locations, quantities, and sizes of materials required. Identify all tools required for tasks. Identify safety risks and the precautions required to eliminate those risks. Fabricate equipment according to blueprints or instructions from supervisors. Hoist equipment and tools into location via bull rigging or crane. Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural-steel members, using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, and/or levels. Connect columns, beams, and girders with bolts, following blueprints and instructions from supervisors. Bolt aligned structural-steel members in position for permanent riveting or bolting. Pull, push, or pry iron/steel equipment into approximate positions for bolting into place. Cut, bend, and weld iron/steel pieces, using metal shears, torches, and welding equipment. Ability to read and understand IFC drawings. Make a hang list, read details off drawings, read all notes on drawings before erection, locate and understand ECN's and holds on drawings. Understand when to stop production work and when an RFI needs to be initiated. Read and understand craft specs and cut sheets, craft spec procedures and recommendations. Locate piece marks for correct views and know how to pick out different elevations. Basic knowledge of welding (machine set up, Mig, stick, gas, ect) Knowledge of cutting torch, set up, dangers, usage, cleaning, types of tips and when to use the different types of tips. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS High School Diploma or Equivalent PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, sitting, and lifting. Employee will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, email use of arm/hand steadiness, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, multi limb coordination, oral expression, and comprehension. Will talk and hear to communicate. Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools. May be required to pick up, lift, carry and move up to 50lbs. Will work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and may occasionally work off platforms/scaffolding using the appropriate fall protection requirements. Must be able to work in all weather conditions (including heat, rain, cold and wind) while wearing appropriate PPE. Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs, masks/respirators, hi-vis safety vests, leather gloves and leather steel-toed work boots.
