We are the Hardware Security team in the Azure Enterprise and Security group (#ensjobs) and we are looking for an experienced, motivated software engineer to help transform and evolve hardware security in all Microsoft products and services. Our code powers billions of devices worldwide and is a constant target of ever more sophisticated cyber criminals. We own some of the most important foundational technologies in Azure, Windows and Xbox that leverage hardware to help protect our customers’ data and devices. Our goal is to ensure our devices are amongst the most secure in the industry, with strong, hardware-backed guarantees and enforcements that are malware resistant. Our team owns many foundational technologies and platforms such as TPM (Trusted Platform Module), Pluton security processor as well as the Xbox hardware security architecture that our customers rely on for securing their devices.

We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be joining a team of highly technical engineers and world-class experts in hardware/firmware/software security. You will lead and be responsible for building technologies and platforms that leverage the latest advancement in security and incorporate mitigations based on advanced attacks. As technical and project leader, you will influence our product technology roadmap aligning to our business goals. Responsibilities

Lead the team to design, develop and deliver security firmware and software solutions that achieve security, reliability, scalability, performance, and efficiency for Microsoft products and services.

Representing Microsoft in security industry standard organization such as Trusted Computing Group for technology specifications discussion and modifications.

Bring other industry standards into our product and technology planning.

Define project engineering plan, execute to deliver with focus on accountability, learning and quality

Mentor and grow the team members’ engineering culture and careers

Guide the team to develop excellent engineering practices and ensure the product is compliant with security, privacy, accessibility and other compliance requirements

Evaluate and assess emerging technologies in the hardware security and related area and partner with product management, customers and other Microsoft teams and other companies to define requirements, develop a roadmap and scope project milestones

Focus on diversity and inclusiveness to enable creative solutions to challenging problems

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Rust, Java, or Python

OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirments:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Track record for creating and owning challenging technical areas in complicated systems, security related area is highly desirable

• Great communication and collaboration skills

• Proven track record for collaboration between many teams and delivering results

• Experience in standard groups such as TCG

• Experience in developing & creating platforms

• Experience in creating and maintaining open source projects

• Experience in Rust programming language and tool chain

• Experience with computer security and cryptography

• Experience with the hardware/firmware/driver development.

• Experience with Windows operating system architecture

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
