Description

The Data Scientist II will develop predictive models and implement custom Machine Learning (ML) algorithms to enhance security measures, optimize, and improve operational efficiency across global Engagement Security mechanisms.

Key job responsibilities

Design, develop, and evaluate innovative ML models to solve diverse obstacles and opportunities across business teams.

Listen to security and business teams to identify viable ML opportunities to improve mechanisms and help develop plans from experiments to proof-of-concept to software product.

Collaborate with software engineering teams to integrate successful experiments into large-scale, highly complex production services.

Rapidly design, prototype, and test many possible hypotheses in a high-ambiguity environment, making use of both quantitative and business judgment. Report results in a scientifically-oriented way.

Collaborate with Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) peers to research, design, develop, and evaluate cutting-edge generative AI algorithms to address real-world security and engagement delivery obstacles.

Create and deliver best practice recommendations, tutorials, blog posts, sample code, and presentations adapted to technical, business, and executive stakeholders. Support adoption of these to impact multiple teams and customers.

Support the development of security guidance on the use of AI/ML, particularly generative AI.

A day in the life

You will collaborate extensively with cross-functional teams to drive innovative, data-driven solutions to support AWS business units. Review program data and metrics to help optimize. Meet with teams to ideate appropriate data analysis techniques for streamlining workflows, automating processes, and enabling data-driven decision-making across various SMGS Engagement Security programs. Report updates and insights from your work to leadership. Collaborate to develop comprehensive metrics and reporting, integrate data sources and design visualizations for actionable insights. Provide thought leadership through proof of concepts, blogs, presentations and white papers.

SMGS Engagement Security protects customers and the AWS business by developing and operating security mechanisms and services for SMGS. We provide directive security guidance, preventative security controls, detective security mechanisms, and responsive security services throughout customer-facing engagements and internal operations and we are accelerating our adoption of AI/ML. Basic Qualifications

3+ years of data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab, etc.) experience

3+ years of machine learning/statistical modeling data analysis tools and techniques, and parameters that affect their performance experience

3+ years of data scientist or similar role involving data extraction, analysis, statistical modeling and communication experience

Experience developing experimental and analytic plans for data modeling processes, use of strong baselines, ability to accurately determine cause and effect relations

Bachelor's degree

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of relevant statistical measures such as confidence intervals, significance of error measurements, development and evaluation data sets, etc.

Experience with deep learning (e.g., CNN, RNN, LSTM, Transformer)

Experience in training and fine-tuning of Large Language Models (LLMs)

Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools

Experience collaborating with business owners, understanding data assets, and recommending data analysis and data science techniques to improve the customer experience

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $125,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
