UW Information Technology (UW-IT) is the central information technology organization for the University of Washington, responsible for strategic planning, oversight, and direction of the UW’s IT infrastructure, resources, and services. UW-IT provides critical technology support to all three campuses, UW Medicine, and research operations around the world, partnering with the UW community to enable innovation, learning, discovery, and service."
The Office of Information Security (OIS) within UW-IT is responsible for the strategic leadership of the University’s information security program and for promoting a culture of cybersecurity across the enterprise. Services are designed to help UW units understand information security risks by analyzing and forecasting threats and vulnerabilities; researching applicable information security laws; providing education, training, and awareness on safeguarding institutional information; consulting on incident management; and managing policies and strategies for protecting UW’s institutional information resources.
The Identity and Access Management (IAM) unit within the Office of Information Security (OIS) is responsible for critical infrastructure and IT services. These include identity registration, authentication, and access control. We participate in national and global federations (e.g. InCommon, eduroam) in support of institutional needs for identity, privacy, security, accountability, and cost-effective management of institutional risk.
The Program Manager is responsible for managing, developing, and allocating technical and operational IAM staff in the Office of Information Security in UW-IT.
• Provide functional and administrative oversight of staff members.
• Perform annual performance reviews that include professional development planning as well as coordinating and organizing input from various team members.
• Interview and hire staff.
• Assign and coordinate work schedules and leave requests.
• Ability to hold people accountable, recommend disciplinary actions if necessary.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science or discipline-related filed OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in information technology systems engineering, management, or operations.
Experience managing information technology resources in a complex technical landscape with a large heterogeneous distributed computing environment.
Ability to negotiate with and provide consultation to leadership, support teams, project managers, service managers, and other technical staff.
Proven track record of mentoring and advancing staff development and career growth.
Demonstrated ability to set and meet goals, assess resource needs, allocate staff, and communicate status.
Ability to quickly find common ground and resolve any project or service challenges that arise; is seen as a collaborator and team player, easily secures trust and support of peers and staff.
High degree of emotional intelligence (self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, agility, adaptability, and persuasiveness).
Demonstrated excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities. DESIRED:
Experience in a major research university.
Experience in hiring technical staff.
Knowledge in one of the following technology suites: Unix Development and Operations, Java Development, Web, Database, Development Tools, Windows Development and Operations, .NET, Storage Engineering and Operations, and Applications Engineering.
Proficiency in ServiceNow or a similar ticketing system.
ITIL knowledge or training
Experience in IT Service Management, Project Management, and Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) fundamentals.
