Job Summary
The Senior Associate Director is responsible for working with the Managing Director and other development team members on the Cancer Programs & Departments team in the planning, implementation, and management of major and principal fundraising efforts for the benefit of Michigan Medicine, specifically related to our work in breast cancer across departments, centers and institutes. The Senior Associate Director will manage and solicit a portfolio of major and principal gift prospects, conducting best-in-class identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities. The Senior Associate Director will be accountable to the performance metrics associated with a MGO, Lead, and achieve the U-M development community standards set for that position as outlined below.The Office of Development supports an overall culture of flexibility with gift officers expected to be outside of their home offices meeting with donors, faculty or colleagues a minimum of three days each week.Some travel is required.

Responsibilities*
Strategic Planning: (15%)
In association with the Managing and Senior Directors of Development, help create and implement a comprehensive multi-year fundraising and campaign plan to significantly increase philanthropic support for the areas defined above.
Engage cross-departmental colleagues in shred vision of funding for breast cancer.
Have a comprehensive understanding of the Michigan Medicine Development fundraising priorities as well as priorities specific to the departments represented across the team, and those of breast cancer, and the Rogel Cancer Center.
Major and Principal Gifts: (75%)
Spend at least 75% time on direct fundraising. Personally maintain a portfolio of 50-100 major, principal gift, and planned giving donor/prospects. Conduct approximately 85-120 visits with donor/prospects per year. Participate in approximately 20 ? 40 solicitations per year. Complete 18-30 managed asks as well as 10-20 closes. Plan systematic, appropriate, and effective solicitation strategies for major and planned gift prospects, focusing on gifts in the range of $100K or more.
Provide guidance for fundraising committees and related events and activities led by volunteers and others in support of Cancer Programs & Departments fundraising activities.
Oversee the preparation of case statements, proposals, solicitation letters, stewardship reports, and other cultivation and stewardship material for prospects/donors.
Staff Mentorship and Engagement: (10%)
Assist in the efforts of the Cancer Programs & Departments development team and other development staff as appropriate, including gift work and increasing teamwork with core services/liaisons to create an environment of engagement.
Directly supervise at least one team member.
Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree.
Demonstrated ability to exercise a high degree of judgment and diplomacy, and an impeccable commitment to confidentiality is required, as well as highest integrity and ethics.
Six or more years of progressively responsible major gift fundraising experience. Experience in cancer fundraising and/or academic medicine.
Demonstrated success in raising capital, program support, endowment, and planned gifts at a level of $100K+ as well as principal gifts at $1M+.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as a proven record of working collaboratively and diplomatically with others is necessary.
Must be able to manage several projects simultaneously, understand the need to re-evaluate priorities, and flourish in a fast-paced atmosphere.
Must be an excellent team player who thrives in a collaborative setting.
Candidate will be required to have reliable internet service.
Periodic travel for donor engagement, conference attendance, etc.
Desired Qualifications*
Master's degree.
Knowledge of the University of Michigan organization, policies and procedures.
Work Locations
The onsite location for this position is an office suite at the 777 Building. This provides free, on-site parking for staff.
This position is a flexible, hybrid position. The Office of Development supports an overall culture of flexibility with gift officers expected to be outside of their home offices meeting with donors, faculty or colleagues a minimum of three days each week. While work arrangements are flexible, you must currently, or be willing to, reside within a daily commutable distance of the office. Flexible work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change dependent on business needs.
