Exhibition Designer

Job Description:Exhibition Designer positions offered by The Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York, NY). Work under the Design Manager and Exhibition Design, and collaborate with other members of the Exhibition Design team. Realize exhibitions and installations from concept to production, including construction administration, in collaboration with curators, conservators, and the museum’s project and construction managers. Produce presentation materials, renderings, and construction drawings as needed from preliminary space planning and budgeting exercises through concept, schematic, and design development phases. Design medium- and smaller-scale permanent collection renovation projects, in consultation with the Design Manager. Collaborate with all members of the 30+ member design department, which includes Graphics, Lighting Design, Production, and Project Management. Support the design team in all phases of an exhibition and effectively communicate with external consultants from case manufacturers to architects, designers, media consultants, in order to realize needs of display and exhibition experience. Collaborate with all Design Managers to bring enhanced design potential to shows across locations, create presentation renderings, and research visual/fabrication materials. Support institutional projects that require rendering, three-dimensional thinking, and/or visitor experience design. Perform architectural design from research and concept through execution/production supervision. Prepare design document drawings (floor plans, sections, elevations, and detail drawings), case lists, and schedules for internal museum reviews and construction bid documents. Build 3D models for design and presentation purposes. Coordinate fabrication with in-house production team, Met Buildings Department, or outside vendors when needed. Help facilitate communication with all Design Managers during the final installation process of all major projects, installations, or exhibitions as assigned.Minimum Requirements:•Must have at least a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Architecture, Exhibition Design, or related field, and at least 2 years of experience in the job offered or at least 2 years of experience in architectural design. •Stated experience must include at least 2 years of experience in the following:oExhibition design or scenic design. oWorking with construction phasing, techniques, structures, fabrication, materials, and project management.oUsing AutoCAD, Vectorworks, or Rhino. oWorking with conceptual design, detailing, and presentation through graphics and media, including renderings and screen-based presentation.oWorking with object visual displays and installations, material sourcing, and sustainability practices. oHandling multiple projects simultaneously and meeting deadlines.We are offering a salary range of $86,000 to $88,000 per year.If interested, email resume to lara.fayyaz@metmuseum.org.
