I. JOB OVERVIEWJob Description Summary:The Senior Financial Analyst, Clinical Research is the primary contact in the GWCC Clinical Trials Office responsible for monitoring funds flow and ensuring the accuracy. This position works collaboratively with SMHS finance and the GWU Office of Clinical Research (GWOCR) in compliance, technical, fiscal, and administrative services required to support cancer clinical trials including, clinical research billing compliance, invoicing, and financial reporting. This individual will assist in the improvement of research billing procedures, helping to ensure the accuracy of ordering research-related patient care services through the research pathway and development of documentation for compliance reporting, financial planning and productivity tracking and will assist in management of clinical trials study budgets.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESResponsible for monitoring the revenue generated from clinical trials for the division to ensure they are accurately accounted for and funds flow reflects accurate and appropriate usage.Assist with monthly billing/invoicing for funded clinical trials verifying financial data for accuracy, completeness and conformance with clinical trial study budgets, includes accurate input of budget and payment milestones into tracking system, must be able to follow monthly tracking of payments and payment issues so that contracts and budgets can be renegotiated if necessaryAssist in monitoring outstanding invoices, tracking collection, reducing accounts receivable balance.Responsible for assisting with the interpreting the financial requirements and billable nature of items and services on clinical trial protocols by conducting a Coverage Analysis, and negotiating budgets with sponsors.Collaborates with research sponsors on budgets that are sufficient to cover costs and are compliant with federal guidelines. Setting up of internal clinical trials files and enters information into required systems (e.g. CTMS, Billing, etc.). Contract signature coordination when applicable.Follow institutional guidelines and policies in performing Medicare Coverage Analysis (MCA).Responsible for entering event schedules, budgets, billing plans, and other financial information into the Clinical Trial Management System (CTMS) to maintain billing compliance and proper reimbursement.Coordinates the budget process in collaboration with other staff to ensure timely execution of compliant and effective budgets as a part of the clinical trial agreements with sponsorsAssist GW investigators in resolving research-related billing issues (in collaboration with individuals in the MFA and Hospital)Assist in the development, implementation and enhancement of specific projects related to clinical research finance by defining overall project goals, expectations of customers, tasks and activities required to achieve project goals.Assist in development of Procedures Manual, coordination of updating existing procedures on a continuing basis and providing input on new procedures as required.Assist with new employee orientation of financial management of studies.Assist in the maintenance of proper storage of clinical trial contracts at GW Cancer Center.May assist with negotiations of individual budgets with sponsors, able to challenge claims made by sponsors on what they feel is appropriate, able to cover costs for GW Cancer Center, asking for appropriate funding and being able to say no to a sponsor without anxiety or anger, keeping GW competitive with other institutions.Able to completely understand the treatment plan, requirements for patient participation and able to discuss the plan with the PI, other GW faculty, and/or scientific reps from the sponsor company. Set the agenda for discussions, establish the tone of the negotiation and direct how the negotiation proceeds.Performs other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.Minimum Qualifications:Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
