Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated individual to help lead the Immunobiology and Epigenetics in Cardiovascular Diseases and Tissue Regeneration Lab (IECT). This key member of our research team will oversee, conduct, and coordinate our basic science research portfolio. They will partner with the Principal Investigator, Dr. Katherine Gallagher, and team members to achieve project goals.

The IECT Lab resides within the Department of Surgery, Section of Vascular Surgery, and focuses on howepigenetic alterations in immune and structural cells are altered in cardiovascular diseases and tissue regeneration processes and can be manipulated to improve treatment of patients with cardiovascular disease and impaired tissue repair.

Responsibilities*

Project Coordination:

Work closely with the Principal Investigator on all development and oversight of basic science research including: project start-up and initiation; design and protocol development; development of project materials; maintenance of data integrity; and project close-out.

Organize and lead project meetings, meeting documentation, and follow-up.

Research project management including maintaining documentation, development and maintenance of project timelines, tracking progress toward project milestones and reporting results.

Financial management and oversight

Engage with our collaborators and partners as a representative of the IECT Lab.

Follow University and Federal guidelines and assist Investigators with ensuring projects adhere to University and Federal guidelines.

Annual progress reporting and proposal development.

Ensure that funds are being spent according to sponsor-approved budgets and in a timely manner, coordinating with grants administrators as necessary on purchases, effort allocations, etc.

Assist with Institutional Review Board (IRB) procedures such as correspondence with IRB staff and preparation and submission of initial applications, amendments and annual continuing review management.

Research Assistance:

Train, supervise and onboard one or more full or part time research assistants/associates working on projects under specialists purview.

Conduct literature review and data analysis.

Meet regularly with team members on project status and troubleshoot any problems/issues.

Assist with preparation of manuscripts, support the revision and resubmit process.

Required Qualifications*

Master's degree (preferred) OR Bachelor's Degree in a recognized field of science or learning which is directly related to the duties of the position and 4 or more years related experience

Prior experience working on research projects

Ability to work with minimal supervision

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities and meet deadlines

Understanding of basic medical terminology

Experience with Institutional Review Board (IRB) and other regulatory requirements for research

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Familiarity with UM research systems and procedures (i.e., eResearch, eRAM)

Desired Qualifications*

Project management or research coordination experience

A strong background in qualitative methods and analysis

Ability to quickly learn new technologies

High level of attention to detail

Superb written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills

Leadership experience in any capacity

Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment

Supervisory and financial management experience
